The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to federal clients, leading initiatives and broader financial management transformation efforts. Leveraging deep expertise in federal finance, accounting, and audit, you will drive process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and implement leading practices that enhance compliance, transparency, and organizational performance.
The successful candidate will help clients strengthen the completeness, accuracy, and traceability of financial transactions from source systems through financial statements while supporting financial statement audits, internal controls, and digital modernization initiatives. Beyond traditional accounting, this position leverages advanced data analytics and emerging artificial intelligence technologies to improve data quality, automate reconciliations, identify anomalies, and enhance financial reporting processes. Team members will work with technologies such as Power BI, Databricks, Palantir, Celonis Intelligence, and agentic AI solutions to analyze millions of financial transactions, reconcile data across multiple enterprise systems, develop executive dashboards, and generate insights that improve financial decision-making and audit outcomes. You will help clients integrate innovative AI-driven capabilities into their financial management environment while fostering a data-driven culture across the organization. This role offers the opportunity to combine accounting expertise, consulting, data analytics, and technology to solve complex financial management challenges supporting mission-critical federal organizations.
The ideal candidate brings years of experience in federal financial management, audit readiness, accounting, or consulting, along with a demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage executive-level client relationships, and deliver complex engagements. The position will be fully remote but will be based in the Washington, DC metro area.
Responsibilities:
- Support federal clients with Universe of Transactions (UoT) validation, financial reporting, and audit readiness initiatives.
- Analyze the completeness, accuracy, and integrity of financial transaction populations supporting financial statement audits.
- Trace financial transactions from originating source systems through subsidiary ledgers, general ledger, and financial statements.
- Perform reconciliations between ERP systems, feeder systems, Treasury reporting, and financial statements.
- Support financial statement preparation and reporting in accordance with federal accounting standards and Treasury guidance.
- Perform data quality assessments and identify incomplete, duplicate, missing, or anomalous financial transactions.
- Develop automated reconciliation processes and exception reporting using modern analytics platforms.
- Support internal and external financial statement audits by preparing audit evidence, responding to auditor requests, and resolving findings.
- Evaluate financial reporting processes and recommend improvements to strengthen internal controls and data governance.
- Develop Process Control Narratives (PCNs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and financial reporting documentation.
- Utilize Power BI, Databricks, Palantir, and Celonis Intelligence to analyze high-volume financial transaction data and create executive dashboards.
- Leverage agentic AI technologies to automate transaction analysis, audit support, financial reconciliations, and reporting workflows.
- Support ERP modernization, financial system implementations, data conversions, and financial reporting enhancements.
- Collaborate with finance, accounting, audit, data engineering, and business stakeholders to improve enterprise financial reporting processes.
- Prepare executive briefings, financial analyses, and client deliverables supporting strategic decision-making.
- 10+ years of experience supporting federal financial reporting, accounting, audit readiness, financial systems, or management consulting.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- Experience supporting federal financial statement audits and audit remediation activities.
- Strong understanding of federal financial reporting, general ledger accounting, trial balances, and financial statement preparation.
- Knowledge of Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB) standards, Treasury Financial Manual, U.S. Standard General Ledger (USSGL), and federal financial reporting requirements.
- Experience performing financial reconciliations across multiple enterprise systems and large transactional datasets.
- Knowledge of internal controls, audit evidence, and financial data validation techniques.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing executive-level deliverables.
- Ability to manage multiple consulting engagements in a collaborative client environment.
- Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
- Experience supporting federal civilian agencies, the Department of Defense, or other national security organizations.
- Experience supporting Universe of Transactions (UoT) testing for federal financial statement audits.
- Experience performing transaction tracing, population completeness testing, sampling support, and audit data analytics.
- Knowledge of FASAB standards, SFIS, USSGL, GTAS, Treasury reporting, DATA Act reporting, and federal financial statements.
- Experience supporting ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, Workday, Momentum, DDRS, or other federal financial management systems.
- Experience using Power BI, Databricks, Palantir, Celonis Intelligence, SQL, Python, or similar analytics tools.
