We develop software systems to address challenging national security problems that enable planning and decision making in domains including active threat deterrence, signal intelligence, cyber operations, machine learning, image processing, and applied data analytics. We seek talented engineers who can work with a team to construct, implement, test, document, and maintain software applications that provide highly impactful capabilities for the special operations and intelligence community.



  • Work alongside other developers to architect, implement, and test complex software solutions for advanced RF exploitation and communication applications.
  • Work closely with signal processing and communication engineers to develop overall solutions that support sponsor needs.
  • Document work in technical reports and informal memoranda as well as present work to sponsors and the technical community.
  • Participate in field evaluation of applications and iterate accordingly based on performance and in response to emergent technical and operational requirements.




  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, math, or another field relevant to the duties as described above.
  • Have at least 5 years of demonstrated proficiency in full stack software development with any combination of Rust, C/C++, C#, Java, Python, Javascript, or Typescript and web application frameworks such as AngularJS or Vue.js.
  • Are able to work effectively in small, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance by your start date. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Are able to do limited travel to sponsor sites.


  • Possess a Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, math, or equivalent.
  • Are interested in leading software development tasks and mentoring.
  • Have a willingness to work on quick-reaction projects in support of sponsor's operational requirements.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
