The Radio Frequency Technician provides technical support for the installation, configuration, operation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of tactical radio frequency (RF) communications systems and Tactical Data Link (Link 16) equipment in support of Department of Defense operations. The position supports engineering and integration teams by preparing laboratory environments, operating specialized communications equipment, conducting system testing, documenting results, and maintaining accountability of communications security (COMSEC) assets. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical aptitude, exceptional attention to detail, and experience supporting military tactical communications systems.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot tactical radio frequency communications systems and Tactical Data Link (Link 16) equipment supporting engineering, integration, and test activities.
• Configure and operate military communications equipment including, but not limited to:
  • AN/PRC-117G
  • AN/PRC-150
  • AN/PRC-160
  • AN/PRC-152A
  • AN/PRC-167
  • AN/PRC-163
  • AN/PRC-158 SADL
  • TacNet Tactical Radio
  • Small Tactical Terminal (STT)
  • Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS)
• Assist engineering teams with avionics, radio frequency, and tactical data link testing utilizing manual and automated test equipment.
• Prepare, configure, and maintain laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and test environments required to support developmental and operational testing.
• Handle, transport, install, and maintain high-value government communications equipment while ensuring proper accountability and protection of sensitive assets.
• Perform preventative maintenance, operational checks, and system diagnostics using electronic test and diagnostic equipment.
• Troubleshoot electronic hardware, communication systems, and associated support equipment using established electrical and electronic troubleshooting techniques.
• Assemble, disassemble, repair, align, modify, and test communications equipment in accordance with engineering drawings, technical manuals, operating procedures, and maintenance documentation.
• Configure radio networks and supporting computer systems using Microsoft Windows operating systems and applicable programming software.
• Utilize knowledge of TCP/IP networking principles to support communications system integration and troubleshooting.
• Maintain Communications Security (COMSEC) materials and equipment in accordance with applicable security regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Prepare written documentation, including test procedures, equipment status reports, maintenance records, and laboratory hand-off documentation.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, security, configuration management, and quality assurance requirements.
• Maintain accountability of government-furnished equipment and laboratory assets.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent and 6+ years of directly related experience; OR
  • Associate degree or equivalent post-secondary education with 2+ years of directly related experience.
• Current CompTIA Security+ certification.
• Active Top Secret security clearance.
• Successfully pass background and drug screening

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience operating, maintaining, and managing tactical radio frequency communications equipment.
• Experience using electronic test equipment and diagnostic instrumentation.
• Experience managing and maintaining Communications Security (COMSEC) material in accordance with National Security Agency (NSA) and Department of Defense requirements.
• Experience supporting Air Force or Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) communications systems.
• Experience supporting military aircraft communications, avionics integration, or tactical data link systems.
• Experience installing and maintaining electrical or communications power systems.
• Familiarity with laboratory testing environments supporting developmental or operational testing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to interpret technical manuals, engineering documentation, and operating procedures.
• Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts.
• Demonstrated experience operating, configuring, and troubleshooting tactical radio frequency communications equipment.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Thorough knowledge of tactical radio frequency communications systems and Link 16 architecture.
• Knowledge of military communications equipment configuration and programming.
• Knowledge of COMSEC accountability procedures and information security practices.
• Knowledge of RF communications principles and electronic troubleshooting methodologies.
• Ability to safely operate, maintain, and troubleshoot sophisticated communications equipment.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical publications.
• Ability to operate electronic diagnostic and automated test equipment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Ability to prioritize multiple assignments while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Windows operating systems.
