SPA is seeking an Accounting Manager to support the company's core accounting operations with a primary focus on month‑end close, general ledger management, and process improvements. This role will report to the Director of Accounting and will play a key part in ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency of SPA's financial close process. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, excellent analytical abilities, and experience improving systems, workflows, and internal controls in a dynamic environment.

Month-End Close and General Ledger Management
- Manage and execute key components of the month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes.
- Prepare, review, and analyze journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger across multiple entities.
- Review financial results and variances, identifying issues and assisting with resolution.
- Maintain and update accounting policies, documentation, and internal controls related to core accounting processes.
Process Improvement and Systems Optimization
- Assist in standing up a SOX compliant internal control program.
- Evaluate current accounting processes and identify opportunities to streamline and automate workflows.
- Implement process improvements to enhance close-cycle efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
- Partner with cross‑functional teams, including FP&A, Operations, and IT, to support system enhancements and data integrity.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to financial systems, reporting tools, and internal controls.
Financial Reporting Support
- Assist with preparation of monthly internal financial reporting packages.
- Assist with preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Provide ad‑hoc analysis to support management decision making.
- Support audit activities, including providing schedules, documentation, and timely responses to auditor inquiries.
Team Collaboration and Leadership
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff.
- Help foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with other accounting team members to resolve issues and support department goals.
Qualifications

Experience and Education
- 6-9 years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience managing and mentoring staff
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
- CPA highly preferred but not required
- Experience in government contracting or a similar complex environment preferred
Knowledge and Attributes
- Strong understanding of US GAAP
- Demonstrated experience operating in a SOX compliant environment
- Demonstrated experience with month‑end close and general ledger management
- Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Experience with ERP systems; Deltek Costpoint experience is a plus
- Commitment to accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement
