Safeguards and preserves aircraft accident scenes and aircraft that have experienced precautionary landings.
- Conduct operations IAW the USAACE Aviation Pre-Accident Plan
- Maintains physical observation of crashed, damaged, and downed aircraft until relieved by proper authority. May watch multiple aircraft at the same site, as long as they can be viewed simultaneously.
- Discourages unauthorized personnel from being at the immediate scene of an aircraft accident site without the use of force to allow the crash rescue crew to work without interference.
- Deters vandalism or unauthorized tampering with military aircraft and equipment.
- Assures aircraft or accident scene is not disturbed by unauthorized personnel.
- Operates motor vehicles and portable communications equipment.
- Flies frequently as a non-crew member aboard military aircraft to and from downed aircraft or downed aircraft sites.
- Required to moor aircraft at PL location (plugs, covers, and/or mooring kit installation).
- Assists in aircraft towing operation.
- Reads road maps in performance of duties.
- When in the "Hot Seat" be ready to board rescue vehicle within three (3) minutes of alert system.

- High school diploma or equivalent - General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
- Required to learn and follow all aircraft safety requirements to travel by aircraft.
- Must successfully complete and document required training and equipping prior to traveling by aircraft.
- Personnel temporarily assigned to the Aircraft Monitor classification are not eligible to travel by aircraft.
