We are seeking a Lead China Research Analyst to support high-priority research and analysis related to the People's Republic of China (PRC). This role is designed for an experienced analyst with deep subject-matter expertise in Chinese industrial policy, military modernization, and critical technology planning, as well as demonstrated experience leading small analytic teams and independently managing a research portfolio.

We are seeking a Lead China Research Analyst to support high-priority research and analysis related to the People's Republic of China (PRC). This role is designed for an experienced analyst with deep subject-matter expertise in Chinese industrial policy, military modernization, and critical technology planning, as well as demonstrated experience leading small analytic teams and independently managing a research portfolio.
- Produce clear, rigorous, and timely written products, including research reports, briefs, executive summaries, and analytic assessments.
- Lead in-depth research and analysis on China-related national security issues, with a focus on topics such as PRC industrial policy, the defense industrial base, PLA reform and modernization, and PRC planning for critical technologies.
- Brief senior leaders and clients on analytic findings, strategic implications, and emerging trends related to China's policy, military, and technology landscape.
- Generate data-informed research efforts, including identifying opportunities to leverage large datasets and analytical tools where appropriate.
- Shape and advance a China-focused research portfolio by identifying analytic gaps, refining research questions, and ensuring sustained coverage of priority issues.
- Exploit and evaluate Chinese-language primary and secondary sources and incorporate relevant findings into all-source or mixed-source analysis.
- Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Asian Studies, International Relations, Economics, or a related field with a focus on China's language, culture, policy, and economy; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

- PRC industrial policy / defense industrial base
- PLA reform and modernization
- PRC policy planning for critical technologies
- Demonstrated experience and managing workflows, quality control, and deliverables.
- Proven ability to with minimal oversight.

- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and structured research skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor analysis for senior decision-makers.
- Experience exploiting Chinese-language sources and integrating them into all-source or mixed-source analytical products.
- Experience supporting U.S. government, defense, intelligence, think tank, or federally funded research environments.
- Per the U.S. Government's eligibility requirements for a clearance, U.S Citizenship is required.
- This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.
- Experience leveraging big data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights relevant to China-focused research topics
- Basic familiarity with SQL and/or Python for data querying, analysis, and research support
- Prior experience briefing senior government or military leaders.
- Advanced degree in China studies, security studies, international relations, public policy, economics, or a related discipline.
