Job Description
- Monitor and ensure completion of processing, tracking, and documentation of all completed background investigations for all civilian and contract employees to and from Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and Central Adjudication Facility (CAF).
- Develop, refine, and implement personnel security policies and procedures to ensure full compliance, resolve complex program issues, and recommend organizational or staffing realignments to improve efficiency.
- Maintain current security clearance records and files, and initiate independent reviews as required on all personnel having access to classified material in order to ensure clearance at the maximum level of security desired.
- Provide regular training to staff related to security clearances and background investigation requirements.
- Analyze information on the effectiveness of ongoing personnel security programs gathered from direct and indirect sources.
- Review investigative reports for conformity to personnel security clearance regulations and determines whether the requested clearance should be granted or denied.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position is identified for the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program requiring incumbent obtain the core Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.
- DoD Personnel Security Adjudications and Defense Information System for Security (DISS) Joint Verification System (JVS) Training for Security Professional courses required within first two years of employment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes adjudicating complex personnel security clearances for a multi-layered, geographically dispersed organization; coordinating investigations of applicants and employees to ensure they meet security standards; and overseeing compliance with personnel security procedures and requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
