Leidos is currently seeking a to support the Antarctic Support Contract and the National Science Foundation's United States Antarctic Program. This Position is remote with annual deployments within CONUS and to OCONUS locations with a focus on Antarctic Field, Peninsula, and field region(s). Responsible for administering and implementing Occupational Safety, Health, and Risk Management strategies in field camp locations and operations that are peripheral to Antarctic stations. This position deploys frequently to Antarctic station and field environment and acts as the primary safety point of contact (POC) for projects and operations that occur in the station and field region(s). Additionally, this position works in the off-season to assess, develop, and implement risk management strategies and plans, participates in pre-season science, and sustain operations reviews and planning meetings.
Deployment is required in this position. The individual in the position must successfully complete the physical and dental examinations, and psychological examination for winter-over positions, as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action. Complies with applicable safety, environmental, health, and waste management policies and procedures. US citizenship required.

- Ensures station, field and peripheral operations meet safety and health program requirements and assists managers with the integration of key standards and use of risk management to prevent injuries in the USAP Operational environment.
- Ensures that ASC operations align with current health and safety standards, and, where applicable, conforms to Federal regulations.
- Employee must be able to act with little supervision, especially when working in field environment.
- Acts as on- and off-site safety and health POC for ASC operations, supporting the development of risk management strategies and tools for use in ASC operations and field camps.
- Works with various levels of management to implement risk management strategies and plans.
- Ensures safety improvement plans and strategies remain consistent with Leidos, ASC, and NSF safety requirements.
- Attends applicable meetings to ensure understanding of upcoming projects and field operations as appropriate.
- Completes routine site visits in and around USAP stations and field camp, completing safety assessments to ensure compliance with general and specific safety and risk management plans/programs.
- Provides guidance to directors, managers, and camp leadership from a safety and risk management perspective at field camps and peripheral operations.
- Follows-up and provides assistance with incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Performs industrial hygiene and safety surveys. Documents findings according to accepted procedures. Uses and maintains health and safety related instrumentation, including 4-gas meters, noise dosimeters, respiratory Quantafit, and Photo Ionization Detectors.
- Provides technical reports on improvement strategies plan/project status to H&S Manager.
- Assists other members of the EHS team with analysis, report generations, and project completion in the standard occupational station and filed environments.
- BS in Safety sciences, chemistry, environmental, engineering, or related field is required. Equivalent relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 5 years experience with safety and health rules, regulations, standards, and the components of an effective safety program, including plant operations and/or construction safety, fire protection, public health, and development of related training programs is required.
- Field experience with logistic base support for remote work camps with emphasis on heavy industrial or construction environments.
- Be able to adapt to extreme weather conditions such as high winds, low temperatures.
- Excellent written and oral communications.
- Individuals may achieve varying levels of professional certification in safety and/or industrial hygiene or equivalent through continuing education and experience.
- Relevant Antarctic or Arctic ESH experience is preferred.
- Professional Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.
