Job Description
- Oversees subordinate JTAC programs within the command, to include inspection, instruction, and evaluations of JTAC instructors to ensure standardization and compliance with program requirements.
- Prepares reports of findings, to include recommendations, from the systemic inspections to address readiness and training issues.
- Ensures JTAC qualifications and currency requirements meet USSOCOM qualification and certification requirements.
- Defends findings to the team chief and other functional or management personnel to ensure clear, rational justification during exit briefings.
- Maintains qualifications as the JTAC Instructor (JTAC-I) and JTAC Standardization Evaluation Examiner (TJAC-E) to ensure operational proficiency.
- Cross references biannual results to determine recurring deficiencies to prepare findings reports and develop staff actions addressing those deficiencies.
- Coordinates, develops and implements policy for the Command JTAC program.
- Conducts long range planning and analysis, on site and off site inspections of systemic issues, miscellaneous staff actions, and other related actions to support current Command JTAC Program mission areas.
- Provides guidance, assistance and external inspections to SOF JTAC Program Managers and their organizations.
- Plans, executes, and manages all phases of recurring and contingency exercises to support the development of Fire Support requirements and POM issues.
- Conducts site surveys, coordinates logistics, manages travel and budgets, and performs risk assessments to support exercise execution.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top-Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment urinalysis screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical, must be able to lift 75 pounds.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain JTAC Instructor qualification/certification. Candidate must be able to become JTAC Evaluator and PM within two years of hire
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) maintaining instructor and evaluator qualifications to support operational proficiency and compliance with established standards; AND 2.) Assisting in enforcing standardization and conducting inspections to strengthen program execution; AND 3.) conducting planning, analysis, inspections, and reporting to identify issues and recommend corrective actions that align with mission objectives; AND 4.) supporting exercise planning and execution by coordinating logistics and performing risk assessments to enhance training readiness. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
