Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the MCCS Regional Operations Officer, the Assistant Regional Operations Officer/Current Operations Officer serves as the central operational hub for coordinating and executing Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) programs and events across the Marine Corps Installations West (MCIWEST) region. The incumbent provides critical technical, operational, and administrative oversight to synchronize MCCS support and response to taskers across multiple installations, including Camp Pendleton, Barstow, Yuma, and Miramar. Exercising formal tasking authority, this role directs internal MCCS divisions to address emerging operational needs, manage and consolidate taskers from higher headquarters (HQMC, MCICOM, MR/MF), and analyze data to inform executive decision-making by the Assistant Chief of Staff (AC/S) and Deputy AC/S. Furthermore, the Current Operations Officer acts as the primary MCCS representative in regional defense initiatives, including Force Protection Exercises and the Regional Defense Operations Center. The incumbent also provides full-spectrum supervisory leadership to a team of operational personnel, ensuring strict accountability, effective workload management, and a positive organizational climate. Assists in the interpretation of directives from higher authority, conducting research, and analyzing data to support recommendations for improving work methods and procedures. Gathers data, analyzes trends, and prepares reports to inform decision-making.
Assists in tracking, consolidating, and responding to taskers from HQMC, MCICOM, MR/MF, or supported commands, utilizing appropriate systems and platforms. Prioritizes tasks under the guidance of the MCCS AC/S and Deputy AC/S but exercises independent judgment in managing workload and deadlines.
Has the authority to task MCCS divisions to gather information, complete projects, and address operational needs. Monitors progress, provides guidance, and ensures accountability for task completion. Supports MCCS representation on various committees and at organizational meetings. Assists in preparing briefing materials and presentations.
Assists in the planning and coordination of MCCS participation in Force Protection Exercises and supports MCCS representation within the MCIWEST Regional Defense Operations Center.
Supervises a team of MCCS Coordinators and other operational personnel. Responsibilities include: assigning and distributing work, approving and disapproving leave, recommending and completing personnel actions, initiating and completing disciplinary actions, conducting performance reviews, providing training and development opportunities, actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment, and fostering a positive and productive work environment. Exercises independent judgment in managing team performance and ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks.

EVALUATIONS:
Minimum of four (4) years of experience that demonstrates a comprehensive familiarity with MCCS management policies, concepts, practices, and principles necessary to support operations and administrative planning/coordination. Comprehensive, working knowledge of overall Marine Corps structure, policies, and procedures required. Supervisory experience required. Strong, demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint). Must possess the ability to compile complex data and synthesize it into high-level briefing materials for senior leadership. Flexibility regarding working conditions, scheduling, and non-standard hours to support shifting mission and operational requirements. Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
