Position Title : Senior Network Engineer (Pacific)
Position Location : Preferably Hawaii or Alaska .
Daily Responsibilities:
- Supports the medical mission of the DoD and addresses complex technical infrastructure requirements across DHA networked facilities within the Pacific Region.
- Identifies and resolves complex LAN/WLAN/WAN network problems and researches network-level issues using network management tools.
- Provides high-level installation, configuration, documentation, management, and troubleshooting of LAN/WLAN/WAN communication equipment for DHA networked facilities within the Pacific Region.
- Serves as the regional point of contact for network issues, configuration management, communications interconnection, addressing, multi-protocol routing, and network management.
- Advises and consults with Government staff, agencies, and contractor representatives involved with LAN/WLAN/WAN design, implementation, deployment, and management to ensure the LAN/WLAN/WAN adequately supports the MHS mission and provides optimal performance.
- Interfaces with and leads Network Specialists and internal or external organizations to resolve LAN/WLAN/WAN issues.
- Resolves technical issues associated with network and routing protocols at all levels of the OSI model using diagnostics and network administration tools such as Orion SolarWinds, ARMIS, and Ansible.
- Supports LAN/WLAN/WAN security by maintaining barrier systems that prevent unauthorized access to MTF systems, including firewalls, VPN devices, and IDSs.
- Provides written recommendations for network-level changes or enhancements, documents changes through tickets, and creates or updates standards in coordination with the NetMOD Network Standards Team.
- Studies vendor products to determine which components and configurations best meet DoD and MTF requirements in the Pacific region.
- Establishes and implements LAN/WLAN/WAN procedures and standards to ensure compliance with DoD, DHA, and DHA Pacific Regional Command objectives and policies.
- Communicates with key customers on the status of all network support requests.
- Provides proactive input on standardization policies and develops procedures identifying best-practice solutions for LAN/WLAN/WAN operations.
- Defines minimum standards related to LAN/WLAN/WAN access and its impact on network operations.
- Leads or participates in other projects and support activities as needed.
Required Years of Experience (min) :
- Five years relevant experience along with Bachelor's degree. Ten years with Technical or Vocational School
Required Degree/Certifications :
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering, technical degree, or related discipline, and five years of directly related experience; or successful completion of a certified Technical or Vocational School and 10 years of directly related experience gained through progressively higher levels of complexity.
- IAM Level III or equivalent certification per DoD 8570.01-M is required.
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are required.
Required Experience & Expertise in the following areas :
- Mastery of networking protocols and technologies including TCP/IP, XDM, HTTP/HTTPS, SMTP, SNMP, DNS, DHCP, RSTP, VRRP, BIND, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, PPP, HDLC, V.35, RS-449, and applicable IEEE 802 standards.
- Direct experience with synchronous/asynchronous communications, Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, FDDI, ATM, and other communications media used by DoD and DHA.
- Experience with OTDR, cable testers, network sniffers, and EIA/TIA cable standards and specifications.
- Mastery-level experience in routed, switched, and shared LAN environments using Microsoft OS, Windows Active Directory, UNIX, OpenVMS, routers, switches, terminal servers, and local/long-haul WAN connectivity.
- Experience with DoD Health Care Information Systems is required.
- Expertise in Windows networks, Cisco Systems, and Orion SolarWinds.
- Ability to establish and configure network firewalls, VPN devices, and IDSs.
- Understanding of MIB and MRTG to support network performance, planning, and minimum downtime.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Government officials, medical professionals, and highly specialized technical personnel, both verbally and in writing.
- Experience with Zero Trust Architectures and Methodologies is desired.
