Job Description

Senior Financial Analyst

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Financial Analyst with a minimum of five years of progressive financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and cost-management experience to join our growing team.

This role is ideal for a financial professional who thrives in a fast-paced government contracting environment and can transform complex financial data into clear, decision-ready information. Are you skilled at developing budgets, analyzing financial performance, monitoring project funding, and presenting recommendations to senior leaders? Do you enjoy collaborating with program managers, government customers, project teams, and contracting partners to support sound financial decisions? If so, this opportunity could be the next step in your career.

Primary Role

The Senior Financial Analyst will provide comprehensive financial planning, analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and cost-management support to our government customer and internal program leadership.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining program budgets, monitoring expenditures and burn rates, preparing cost estimates, analyzing budget-to-actual performance, managing funding information, and producing financial reports and presentations that support informed decision-making.

The successful candidate will work closely with government project managers, branch leadership, program leads, contracts personnel, project analysts, and external partners to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and aligned with program requirements.

How You Drive Value

Your expertise in financial analysis, cost estimating, budgeting, forecasting, and program financial management will help our government customer maintain visibility into project performance, funding requirements, and long-term financial obligations.

By translating financial data into clear insights and actionable recommendations, you will help program leaders:
  • Make informed funding and resource-allocation decisions.
  • Identify potential budget shortfalls and financial risks.
  • Understand project burn rates and cost trends.
  • Develop defensible cost estimates and funding requests.
  • Prepare for current-year execution and future fiscal-year requirements.
  • Maintain alignment among program scope, available funding, and contractual obligations.

Your contributions will strengthen financial accountability, improve program planning, and support the successful execution of mission-critical government initiatives.

You Will
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze program budgets, financial forecasts, and multi-year funding projections.
  • Collaborate with government project managers, branch chiefs, project leads, and internal program leadership to update consolidated budget information and long-range financial plans.
  • Prepare budget-to-actual analyses, burn-rate reports, trend analyses, and financial-health assessments for assigned projects and programs.
  • Develop charts, dashboards, presentations, and executive-level financial summaries that clearly communicate project performance, funding status, risks, and projected requirements.
  • Present financial findings and recommendations to government customers, program managers, senior leadership, and other key stakeholders.
  • Support the development and maintenance of cost-estimation tools used for fiscal-year transitions, funding planning, and ad hoc financial requests.
  • Develop independent government estimates, cost estimates, rough-order-of-magnitude estimates, and other financial planning products that align with statements of work and program scope.
  • Review statements of work, contractual requirements, and project plans to ensure that financial estimates accurately reflect anticipated labor, travel, materials, and other direct costs.
  • Monitor incoming funding and prepare detailed cost breakouts, material requirements, and supporting documentation needed to accept and execute funds.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining appropriate financial structures for charging labor, travel, materials, and other project expenses against available funding.
  • Analyze project expenditures, funding balances, period-of-performance requirements, and funding expiration dates to identify potential financial risks.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and external partners to review financial reports, validate expenditures, and monitor the use and expiration of project funds.
  • Maintain accurate historical financial records and develop projections for current and future fiscal years.
  • Reconcile financial information across accounting systems, program-management tools, contract reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Perform general-ledger analysis and investigate financial variances, discrepancies, or unusual trends.
  • Support annual operating-budget development, personnel planning, salary forecasting, and full-time-equivalent headcount analysis.
  • Prepare financial materials for senior leadership meetings, customer briefings, budget committees, finance committees, and other executive reviews.
  • Respond to recurring and ad hoc financial-data requests from program leadership, government customers, project teams, contracts personnel, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships across government organizations, contractor teams, subcontractors, and functional departments.
  • Provide guidance and financial support to project managers and budget owners, helping them understand financial reports, forecasts, funding limitations, and execution requirements.
  • Ensure financial data and reports are accurate, complete, timely, and prepared in accordance with applicable accounting principles, contractual requirements, and organizational procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting tools, data quality, and forecasting accuracy.

You Have
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must possess and maintain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance.
  • A minimum of five years of progressive experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, cost estimating, program finance, or a related discipline.
  • A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting government programs, federal contractors, defense organizations, or other complex project-based environments.
  • Demonstrated experience developing annual budgets, multi-year forecasts, financial projections, and program-level cost estimates.
  • Strong knowledge of financial statements and the relationships among the income statement, balance sheet, and cash-flow statement.
  • Experience conducting budget-to-actual analysis, variance analysis, burn-rate analysis, trend analysis, and financial-health assessments.
  • Experience preparing financial reports, presentations, charts, and briefings for program managers, government customers, executives, or governing boards.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret statements of work, funding documents, contractual requirements, and project plans.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and sound financial-management practices.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookup functions, conditional calculations, charts, financial models, and large data sets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • The ability to explain complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and respond effectively to time-sensitive financial requests.
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating successfully with diverse teams, departments, government organizations, and contractor partners.

We Would Love It if You Had
  • Experience supporting the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Department of Defense, or another federal government customer.
  • Experience working within an Integrated Product Team or government program-management office.
  • Experience creating independent government estimates, rough-order-of-magnitude estimates, cost-estimation tools, or similar financial-planning products.
  • Experience managing labor, travel, material, subcontractor, and other direct-cost funding.
  • Experience monitoring contract funding, funding expiration dates, period-of-performance requirements, and project financial risk.
  • Experience serving as a financial liaison between government customers, prime contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Experience with Oracle, Power BI, Tableau, Workday Adaptive Planning, Ellucian Colleague, Financial Edge, or comparable financial-management and business-intelligence platforms.
  • Experience developing dashboards or automated reporting tools that improve financial visibility and decision-making.
  • Experience supporting payroll budgeting, salary forecasting, workforce planning, or full-time-equivalent headcount analysis.
  • Experience training or assisting program managers and budget owners in financial planning, forecasting, and budget execution.
  • Experience preparing executive-level materials for boards, finance committees, senior leadership teams, or government headquarters organizations.
