Job Description
D9TECH RESOURCES, LLC
SDVOSB | SBA 8(a) | Cleared Federal & Department of Defense Support
Telecommunications Mechanic II
Skilled Shipboard Trade | Berthing & Messing Program | Two Openings
Locations: Hampton Roads, VA and Kittery, ME (Portsmouth Naval Shipyard area)
Clearance: Active or interim Secret required at start of performance
Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required
Work Setting: On-site and shipboard, aboard marine craft in an active shipyard
Type & Level: Full-time | Mid-level (5+ years of relevant trade experience)
About the Role
D9Tech Resources is hiring an experienced Telecommunications Mechanic II to keep the voice and non-voice systems running aboard the Navy's duty crew berthing barges and other service craft. This is skilled trade work, performed hands-on and shipboard, and it carries genuine weight, because the systems you install, wire, and repair are the ones each crew depends on every day.
The role also blends that trade work with formal inspection and reporting, so the right person is equal parts technician and careful set of eyes. Before and after service, you confirm that each craft's systems are sound, and you document what you find. Two openings are available: one on the Hampton Roads waterfront in Virginia, and one supporting craft in the Kittery and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard area in Maine.
What You Will Do
• Install, maintain, and repair telephone and telecommunication systems and wiring aboard berthing barges and other service craft.
• Run and terminate cable and wire to telephone sets, jacks, terminal connectors, lugs, pins, and screws, and repair or replace deteriorated wiring from the pier-side connection point onto the craft.
• Perform preliminary and final visual and operational inspections using the Barge Systems and Equipment Check-off list (BSEC), and submit a detailed report of all discrepancies.
• Support the upkeep of communication, alarm, and interior communication systems as part of organizational level maintenance.
• Test systems after repair to confirm proper operation, and document your work in accordance with program maintenance procedures.
Required Qualifications
• U.S. citizen, able to obtain and hold a Secret clearance, with an active or interim clearance in place when performance begins.
• Skilled telecommunications or electronics trade experience covering the installation, maintenance, and repair of telephone and communication systems.
• Ability to read and apply schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Comfortable working aboard marine craft in an active shipyard, and able to comply with OSHA shipyard employment standards (29 CFR 1915) and related safety directives.
Preferred Qualifications
• High school diploma or technical training, paired with relevant trade experience, consistent with the Telecommunications Mechanic II occupational standard.
• Prior experience with Navy, marine, or other maritime communication and interior communication systems.
Compensation
These are Service Contract Act covered positions. Pay starts at the applicable Department of Labor wage determination rate for each location, and D9Tech can offer above that starting rate based on a candidate's years of relevant experience. Overtime is paid at one and one half times the base rate for hours worked beyond forty in a week.
• Hampton Roads, VA: starting at $30.54 per hour, about $63,500 per year at full time.
• Kittery, ME: starting at $39.68 per hour, about $82,500 per year at full time. This rate is set by the Maine wage determination and runs above the open civilian market for this trade.
Schedule & Work Environment
Regular hours are 0700 to 1530, Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays. Overtime, including weekends and holidays, may be required on short notice. All work is performed on-site and shipboard within an active shipyard, so the ability to move about marine craft and work safely in that environment is essential.
