Job Title: Cyber Technology Researcher
Location: Arlington, VA (Onsite)

Position Overview
Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) supports mission-critical federal cybersecurity programs that provide onsite incident response services to civilian Government agencies and critical infrastructure organizations experiencing cyber-attacks. These teams rapidly investigate security incidents, characterize breaches, develop mitigation strategies, and assist customers with restoring critical systems and services. We are seeking a Cyber Technology Researcher to support the evaluation, research, and integration of emerging cybersecurity technologies that enhance mission operations. This position serves as the primary coordinator for technology requests, managing initiatives from initial requirements gathering through capability evaluation, implementation, and operational feedback.
The successful candidate will leverage strong cybersecurity, systems engineering, and technology research experience to identify innovative solutions, evaluate emerging capabilities, and ensure new technologies align with operational mission requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct research and evaluate commercial, government, open-source, and emerging technologies that support mission requirements.
• Assess technology solutions against functional and technical requirements through research, demonstrations, and hands-on evaluations.
• Evaluate trial software, open-source capabilities, and commercial products to determine operational suitability.
• Manage technology requests from initial submission through capability delivery, implementation, and operational feedback.
• Meet with mission stakeholders to gather requirements, clarify operational needs, and recommend appropriate technology solutions.
• Develop and document technical requirements, capability assessments, and recommended courses of action.
• Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to support technology integration and transition into operational environments.
• Maintain awareness of emerging cybersecurity technologies, market trends, and industry best practices.
• Support knowledge management efforts by maintaining inventories of approved technologies, tools, and mission capabilities.
• Assist with technology pilot initiatives and production transition activities.
• Develop technical documentation, evaluation reports, status updates, and stakeholder briefings.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives through lessons learned and technology assessments.
Mandatory Skills
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Active Secret Clearance (TS/SCI preferred).
• Ability to obtain Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Entry on Duty (EOD) Suitability.
• Five (5) or more years of directly relevant experience supporting cybersecurity operations, systems engineering, systems integration, or related technical environments.
• Strong understanding of federal cybersecurity operations and mission environments.
• Experience researching, evaluating, and recommending technology solutions.
• Experience supporting technology pilots, capability assessments, or production transitions.
• Knowledge of change management, configuration management, and technology lifecycle processes.
• Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, and systems integration practices.
• Strong project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.
• Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks.
• Experience supporting mission-critical IT or cybersecurity environments.
• Excellent analytical, documentation, and presentation skills.
Preferred Skills
• Supporting CISA or other Federal cybersecurity programs.
• Cybersecurity tool evaluation, integration, and automation.
• Technology assessments and proof-of-concept (PoC) evaluations.
• Zero Trust architecture and cybersecurity modernization initiatives.
• Cloud operations, hybrid cloud environments, or cloud-native technologies.
• Malware analysis tools, cyber threat intelligence platforms, or security operations technologies.
• ITIL, Agile, or project management methodologies.
• Working in multi-stakeholder or enterprise technology integration environments.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
OR
High School Diploma with seven (7) or more years of directly relevant experience supporting cybersecurity operations, systems engineering, technology integration, or related technical environments.
Desired Certifications
• DoD 8140 IAT Level II
• ITIL Foundation
• Project Management Professional (PMP)
• CompTIA Security+ or equivalent cybersecurity certification
