Job Description
- Responsible for advising and assisting DHN MTFs in the planning, development, and operation of patient safety activities and serve as an expert in patient safety policies, procedures, and implementation across all fields of healthcare.
- Advise DHN MTFs on the implementation of patient safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), guidebooks, and other resources as required.
- Develop and manage feedback to the DHN leadership and MTF Patient Safety Managers (PSMs)/Patient Safety Officers (PSOs)/Patient Safety professionals on patient safety plans.
- Advise the DHN MTFs of findings from event investigations, patient safety reporting tools and patient safety survey data to develop patient safety action plans and organizational performance plans.
- Direct coordination with the MTFs related to the collection and monitoring of patient safety administration and evaluation criteria, requirements, and procedures.
- Liaises with the DHN MTFs to determine their perception of patient safety, manage the execution of the Patient Safety Culture Survey and additional surveys as required.
- Responsible for the identification, development, packaging, and dissemination of patient safety related messaging and content via multiple communication platforms to the DHN MTFs.
- Attend and participate in Patient Safety work group meetings (such as Patient Safety Improvement Collaborative and Patient Safety Community of Practice) and stay abreast of system-wide patient safety activities, learning events, and opportunities.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
S One year of specialized experience which includes developing patient safety policies, guidance or standard operating procedures (SOPs), providing training to staff on regulatory standards and guidance, identifying issues with health care practices and recommending alternatives to improve processes and advising senior leaders on patient safety metrics. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12)
