Job Description



  • You will design, develop, test and evaluate radiation instrumentation and other devices utilized in the mission of the Naval Dosimetry Center.
  • You will apply principles of the physics of radiation interaction, thermodynamics, optics, mechanics and electronics in accomplishment of the mission.
  • You will exercise professional judgement and vision and utilize professional knowledge of fundamental scientific and engineering principles in the pursuit of critical work.
  • You will test the reliability and stability of the devices to assure that adequate personnel dosimetry can be economically accomplished.
  • You will prepare proposed, justified, documented determinations of acceptance or rejections of proposals submitted.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Incumbent must be certified as a radiation worker.


Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

1- Experience utilizing knowledge in the areas of radiation dosimetry, the principles of radiation detection and measurements.
2- Experience demonstrating the capacity for sound independent work primarily in the application of professional knowledge and competence in the field of health physics concerned with the protection of persons and their environment from unwarranted exposure to ionizing radiation.
3- Experience interpreting safety regulations to recommend operational improvements for the radiation health program, and evaluates existing policies and standard operating procedures to implement necessary updates and advancements.
4- Experience utilizing skills in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel), basic programming and utilization of databases.

Basic Requirements:
  • Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus.

  • Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A.




  • This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
