Job Description
This position requires onsite in Tucson, AZ and an active Secret security Clearance. Candidates who do not hold this clearance are not eligible for hire.
Solidus is seeking a highly experienced Principal System Safety Engineer to lead the development, implementation, and execution of comprehensive system safety programs. In this role, you will work across integrated product teams to identify risks, eliminate hazards, and ensure full compliance with military safety standards throughout the entire product lifecycle from concept to disposal.
Day in the Life:
- Lead and implement MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs
- Perform MIL-STD-882 System Safety tasks including Management (100), Analysis (200), Evaluation (300), and Verification (400) series
- Analyze hardware, mechanical, and electrical drawings to assess fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety compliance
- Design concise, testable safety requirements and audit existing architecture for system safety allocation
- Collaborate across all integrated product teams (hardware, software, test) to horizontally integrate safety considerations
- Review tactical operation, maintenance, and system test procedures to ensure proper administrative safety controls are active
- Provide direct technical oversight and mentorship to junior safety engineers on the team
- Serve as the primary safety point of contact for external stakeholders, program offices, subcontractors, and vendors
- Prepare formal Safety Assessment Reports (SAR) and Safety Program Briefs for government and customer approval
- Present the system safety posture at technical reviews and formal safety approval boards
- Partner with Program Management and government authorities from initial program startup through production, demilitarization, and disposal
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline with 8+ years of professional experience, OR Master's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline with 6+ years of professional experience
- Active Secret clearance
- Proven experience interfacing with military and government approval authorities
- Strong understanding of product architecture, fault tree analysis, and hazard mitigation strategies
- Cultural fit amongst a collaborative team environment
