We are seeking a DevSecOps Engineer to support secure software delivery, infrastructure automation, observability, and platform operations for a cloud-native, event-driven AWS environment serving the Department of Veterans Affairs. This role contributes to CI/CD pipelines, automated environment provisioning, containerized deployments, and security integration for Kafka/MSK-based event streaming, RPC-driven services, and real-time WebSocket applications. The DevSecOps Engineer works closely with cloud engineers, developers, security personnel, and operations teams to improve delivery speed, repeatability, reliability, and compliance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Bitbucket, and related tools for automated build, test, security, and deployment workflows.

·        Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Packer for repeatable AWS environment provisioning and configuration.

·        Deploy, configure, and support containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.

·        Integrate code, dependency, container, Infrastructure as Code, and configuration security checks into delivery pipelines.

·        Implement secure secrets management, IAM policies, encryption, access controls, and configuration practices using Vault and AWS-native capabilities.

·        Implement and maintain logging, monitoring, alerting, and dashboards using Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Kibana, and comparable tools.

·        Support Kafka/MSK infrastructure through automation, deployment tooling, monitoring, operational controls, and routine troubleshooting.

·        Automate environment provisioning, configuration management, release orchestration, rollback, and routine operational tasks.

·        Support deployment and scaling of distributed services and real-time streaming components, including WebSocket-enabled applications.

·        Analyze pipeline, infrastructure, and platform issues and contribute to incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.

·        Collaborate with software and cloud engineers to embed DevSecOps practices into development workflows and application designs.

·        Maintain pipeline documentation, configuration standards, runbooks, and evidence needed for reliable and auditable operations.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

·        2–4 years of experience in DevOps, DevSecOps, cloud engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical role.

·        Working knowledge of AWS fundamentals, cloud deployments, networking concepts, IAM, and secure configuration practices.

·        Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Git-based workflows using Bitbucket, GitHub, GitLab, or comparable platforms.

·        Experience or practical exposure to Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and machine-image automation tools such as Packer.

·        Familiarity with Docker and foundational knowledge of Kubernetes or another container orchestration platform.

·        Experience or exposure to application and infrastructure monitoring, centralized logging, alerting, and operational dashboards.

·        Understanding of DevSecOps principles, automated security scanning, secrets management, vulnerability remediation, and least privilege.

·        Foundational scripting or automation skills using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or a similar language.

·        Familiarity with distributed systems, messaging platforms, or event-driven architectures; Kafka or AWS MSK exposure is valued.

·        Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and collaboration skills with the ability to work across development, security, platform, and operations teams.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:

·        Experience working in the Department of Veterans Affairs, another Federal agency, or a regulated enterprise environment.

·        Experience supporting Kafka, AWS MSK, or another event-driven messaging platform.

·        Experience with Vault, Consul, Nexus, or similar enterprise platform and artifact-management tooling.

·        Experience supporting real-time streaming, WebSocket-based applications, or other distributed cloud services.

EDUCATION:

·        Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

CLEARANCE:

·        Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
