Junior Database Administrator
Quantico, VA / Hybrid
Top Secret (TS) clearance required

Blu Omega is seeking a Junior Database Administrator to support a federal program focused on national security mission systems. This role operates within a hybrid operating environment and is responsible for secure database operations across mission application environments. The position requires experience supporting database administration and engineering functions within a mission-driven environment.

Key Details
Location: Quantico, VA (Hybrid; typically 2 days/week onsite; additional onsite may be required based on role needs)
Clearance: Active/Interim Top Secret (TS) clearance
Work Authorization: U.S. Citizenship is required as a precondition of employment.

Responsibilities
  • Administer, engineer, monitor, and sustain database platforms supporting mission applications, workflow processing, reporting, integrations, and operational data needs
  • Serve as a technical resource for Microsoft SQL Server administration/engineering and PostgreSQL
  • Support schema management, indexing, query tuning, stored procedures/functions, backup and recovery, replication, capacity planning, and high availability
  • Troubleshoot performance, connectivity, locking/blocking, job failures, query behavior, data integrity, permissions, and application-to-database issues
  • Support database changes for releases, migrations, modernization events, environment refreshes, and transition from legacy to cloud-aligned capabilities
  • Collaborate with application, cloud, DevSecOps, systems, QA, cybersecurity, and data teams to resolve defects and strengthen database reliability
  • Support cloud-hosted database environments, preferably in AWS, including managed database services, storage, monitoring, access control, encryption, and resiliency considerations
  • Maintain database documentation, data flow mappings, operational procedures, recovery steps, configuration details, and dependency records
  • Monitor database health, capacity, availability, recoverability, data quality, and security posture
  • Support secure database operations, including least-privilege access, audit logging, encryption considerations, vulnerability remediation, STIG alignment, RMF/ATO evidence, and compliance support
  • Assist with reporting, analytics, data validation, and interface troubleshooting where database structures or data quality affect mission outcomes

Required Qualifications
  • 0-4 years experience
  • Active Top Secret clearance
  • Current DoD 8570 compliance at the level required for the role
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Hands-on experience administering and engineering Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments
  • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL administration, performance tuning, and operational support
  • Strong SQL skills, including query tuning, indexing strategy, execution plan analysis, stored procedures/functions, data integrity, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with backup/recovery, availability, capacity planning, patching coordination, monitoring, and database operational support
  • Familiarity with cloud computing environments; AWS experience preferred
  • Ability to support database releases, migrations, schema changes, test data preparation, and production support in controlled environments
  • Understanding of secure database operations in federal, DoD, intelligence, national security, or similarly sensitive environments
  • Strong documentation, analytical, and cross-team communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting secure mission platforms involving industrial security, case management, compliance workflows, enterprise reporting, controlled submissions, or information exchange
  • Experience with AWS RDS/Aurora, SQL Server on AWS, PostgreSQL on AWS, cloud migration, or hybrid database architectures
  • Experience with database automation, scripting, monitoring, performance baselining, operational dashboards, and environment refresh processes
  • Familiarity with RMF, ATO, STIGs, POA&Ms, vulnerability remediation, audit logging, and data protection requirements
  • Experience supporting legacy database modernization, data refactoring, ETL/data movement, and application integration
  • Certifications such as Security+ CE, Microsoft SQL Server/Azure database credentials, PostgreSQL certifications, AWS database/cloud certifications, or equivalent technical credentials

Compensation
Salary Range: 65,000 - 85,000
Final compensation is based on technical skills, experience, education, certifications, and clearance.
