Job Description

SMX is seeking a passionate and innovative Senior Network Engineer to join our team supporting the Defense Health Agency (DHA) across the Pacific. In this high-profile leadership role, you won't just manage networks-you'll enable life-saving missions and cutting-edge medical care for service members and their families at DoD medical facilities across the region.

As the go-to expert for network infrastructure, you will architect, implement, and secure complex LAN/WLAN/WAN environments vital to the military health system. You'll guide teams, solve critical technical challenges, and ensure that essential healthcare systems are always connected, protected, and performing at their best.

Must be willing to relocate or live on Oahu.

DoD Secret clearance is required which requires US citizenship for work on DoD contracts

  • Drive Mission Readiness: Design, deploy, and manage robust network solutions that directly support military health operations and patient outcomes across the Pacific theater.
  • Be a Trusted Advisor: Serve as the regional authority-collaborating with DHA leadership, government agencies, and contractor partners to deliver resilient, innovative network architectures.
  • Own Network Excellence: Oversee installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization for diverse network environments and medical information systems.
  • Shape Security Posture: Lead cybersecurity initiatives, champion Zero Trust architecture, and ensure compliance with DoD/DHA standards to safeguard sensitive medical data.
  • Lead & Mentor: Inspire excellence in a technical team and foster collaboration across organizations to maintain 24/7 operational readiness.
  • Solve the Toughest Challenges: Tackle complex issues across all layers of the OSI model using advanced network tools (SolarWinds, ARMIS, Ansible), and continually evolve our network to meet future needs.

  • Expertise & Certifications: Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar (or equivalent experience/certifications); IAM Level III (per DoD 8570.01), CCNP, and CISSP required.
  • Proven Mastery: Deep technical skills in networking protocols (TCP/IP, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF), security (firewalls, VPNs), infrastructure management (SolarWinds, ARMIS, Ansible), and hands-on experience with Cisco and Windows environments.
  • DHA/DoD Know-How: Experience supporting military healthcare IT systems is essential; you understand the urgency, security, and complexity that comes with the mission.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Strong communicator who thrives in multi-disciplinary, fast-paced settings-ready to advise, mentor, and lead during challenging scenarios.
  • US Citizenship & Clearance: Must already hold an active DoD Secret security clearance (or higher).

  • Mission-Driven Work: Directly enable the readiness and effectiveness of our nation's military healthcare system.
  • Technological Innovation: Work with state-of-the-art tools in some of the world's most complex networked environments.
  • Supportive Culture: Join a team that values collaboration, innovation, continuous learning, and taking care of each other.
  • Career Growth: Expand your technical and leadership skills in a role with visibility from senior DoD and DHA leadership.

If you're ready to be a critical part of the backbone supporting military medical excellence, join us and help make a difference-every day, for those who serve.
