Public Health Technician (Expat)
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance and/or Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT).
As required by our governmental client, this position requires being a U.S. Citizen.
The Public Health Technician supports the Department of State Diplomatic Platform Support Services (DiPSS) program by assisting with environmental and public health operations at U.S. Embassy facilities throughout the Middle East. This position performs food safety inspections, potable water inspections, communicable disease surveillance, environmental health assessments, and public health education to ensure compliance with U.S. Government public health standards while protecting the health and safety of embassy personnel and contractors.
Compensation & Benefits:
Estimated Starting Salary Range for Public Health Technician: Pay commensurate with experience.

Public Health Technician Responsibilities Include:
- Conduct inspections of food service facilities, cafeterias, snack bars, Meals Ready-to-Eat (MRE) facilities, concessions, retail stores, and food deliveries to ensure compliance with the U.S. FDA Food Code.
- Inspect potable water systems, Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Units (ROWPU), bottled water deliveries, and water storage locations to verify compliance with U.S. EPA primary and secondary drinking water standards.
- Perform environmental health inspections of ablution units, chemical latrines, barber and beauty facilities, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) facilities, gyms, and other assigned locations.
- Evaluate food extension requests submitted by vendors using organoleptic testing, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable regulatory guidance.
- Monitor and investigate gastrointestinal illnesses, communicable diseases, and other public health incidents to identify potential causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct public health surveillance activities and assist with statistical reporting and healthcare planning initiatives.
- Collaborate with Department of State Contracting Officer Representatives (CORs), Embassy leadership, Department of Defense personnel, contractors, and facility operators during inspections and public health assessments.
- Provide education, mentoring, and technical guidance to vendors, contractors, and facility personnel regarding food safety, sanitation, and public health requirements.
- Support laboratory-related activities involving food and water testing when required.
- Assist with Unit Dose System (UDS) collection and support clinical operations during Mass Casualty (MASCAL) events or Walking Blood Bank activations.
- Provide temporary operational support for the Public Health Manager during periods of absence, as assigned.
- Maintain inspection records, reports, and documentation in accordance with established policies and program requirements.
- Independently perform assigned public health duties following completion of training while adhering to established guidelines and procedures.
- Analyze routine technical issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions using sound judgment and applicable regulatory standards.
- Perform additional duties assigned in support of mission requirements.
Public Health Technician Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities Requested:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Certifications:
- Food safety, environmental health, or related certifications are preferred.
- Additional public health certifications are desirable.
Experience:
- Typically requires 2-4 years of relevant public health, environmental health, or regulatory experience.
- Experience conducting food safety inspections using the U.S. FDA Food Code is required.
- Experience inspecting potable water systems and applying U.S. EPA drinking water standards is required.
- Previous experience working in a regulatory or compliance role is required.
- Laboratory experience involving food and water testing is preferred.
- Experience working with facility owners, operators, contractors, or government stakeholders is preferred.
- Experience supporting overseas government, military, or contingency operations is desirable.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Working knowledge of the U.S. FDA Food Code and food safety principles.
- Knowledge of U.S. EPA primary and secondary drinking water standards.
- Understanding of communicable disease surveillance, environmental health, and sanitation practices.
- Ability to conduct facility inspections and prepare accurate inspection reports.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to educate, mentor, and train individuals from diverse cultural and language backgrounds.
- Ability to work collaboratively with government personnel, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Abilities:
- Must be medically fit and willing to travel both CONUS and OCONUS.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must possess a valid U.S. Driver's License.
- Must possess a valid U.S. Passport Book with at least 13 months of remaining validity and six blank visa/stamp pages.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
- Must meet CENTCOM Modified Operational Duty (MOD) Fit-for-Duty theater requirements.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance and/or Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) for the duration of the task order.
- Must be flexible and willing to work at assigned locations based on mission requirements.
