Senior Data Scientist
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to design, develop, test, and implement advanced statistical, machine learning, and computational models against large and complex datasets. This is a highly technical, hands-on role focused on data science, modeling, algorithms, experimentation, and software development, rather than traditional reporting, visualization, or business analytics.
The ideal candidate is a strong programmer who can take a complex problem from data exploration and feature engineering through model development, validation, optimization, and production implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, train, test, and optimize machine learning and statistical models for complex data-driven problems.
Develop production-quality data science solutions using Python, Java, R, Scala, or similar programming languages.
Apply techniques including classification, regression, clustering, anomaly detection, forecasting, optimization, and predictive modeling.
Perform advanced feature engineering, feature selection, model evaluation, and hyperparameter tuning.
Build algorithms capable of processing and learning from large, complex, structured and unstructured datasets.
Design experiments and apply statistical methods to evaluate model performance, identify patterns, and validate hypotheses.
Develop and evaluate supervised and unsupervised machine learning models.
Research, prototype, and implement new modeling approaches based on evolving mission and technical requirements.
Work with Python data science and machine learning frameworks such as Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or comparable technologies.
Develop scalable data science solutions utilizing Apache Spark, PySpark, or distributed computing frameworks.
Write complex SQL to extract, manipulate, transform, and prepare large datasets for modeling.
Develop reusable code, libraries, algorithms, and data-processing components supporting data science applications.
Perform model validation, performance testing, bias/error analysis, tuning, and optimization.
Collaborate with Data Engineers and Software Engineers to transition models from research and experimentation into production environments.
Integrate models into applications, APIs, data pipelines, and cloud-based systems.
Work within AWS or comparable cloud environments to develop and deploy scalable data science workloads.
Maintain technical documentation covering modeling methodology, assumptions, algorithms, experimentation, and model performance.
Required Qualifications
Senior-level experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Strong hands-on programming experience with Python and experience with additional languages such as Java, R, or Scala.
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing machine learning and statistical models.
Strong understanding of statistics, probability, linear algebra, optimization, and algorithm development.
Experience with supervised and unsupervised learning techniques.
Hands-on experience with scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, XGBoost, or similar ML frameworks.
Experience performing feature engineering, model selection, model validation, hyperparameter tuning, and performance optimization.
Strong experience working with SQL and relational databases, including PostgreSQL or similar technologies.
Experience processing large datasets using Spark, PySpark, Scala, or comparable distributed processing technologies.
Experience developing technical solutions within AWS or other cloud environments.
Experience taking models beyond experimentation into operational or production environments.
Strong software development fundamentals, including version control, testing, debugging, reusable code development, and Linux-based development environments.
Ability to independently solve complex problems requiring a combination of mathematics, statistics, programming, experimentation, and domain knowledge.
