Job Description



  • This position provides technical and/or administrative direction to one or more subordinates, but occupies less than the required minimum of the position's time
  • Plans, directs, and manages the programs of the of the center Inspector General office
  • As a significant responsibility, critical recruitment level of emphasis, and performance on a regular recurring basis serves as the commander's principal advisor on Air Force Complaints Resolution program
  • Oversees the operation and management of Self-Assessment, Exercise, and Inspection programs.
  • Represents the Inspector General office and programs with a variety of wing/center and functional area organizations.

  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance as a condition of employment.

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in public management, administration or criminal justice is desired but not mandatory.
  • IAW AF guidance, incumbent must complete the Inspector General Training Course for Inspections (IGTC-1), the IG Training Course-Complaints Resolution (IGTC-Q) within 90 days after assignment.
  • and complete all necessary requirements to achieve certification within 6 months of appointment.Successful completion of other courses will be accomplished IAW applicable DoD and AF regulations.


In order to qualify, you must meet the SPECIALIZED experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, ADMINISTRATIVE AND MANAGEMENT POSITIONS

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience to at least the next lower broadband (NH-03), equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-13), or equivalent in the Federal service. Specialized experience must include knowledge of a wide range of complex inspection, investigation, enforcement, and/or compliance principles, concepts, and practices; as well as knowledge of Public Laws, Executive Orders, DoW Regulations, Air Force Instructions, administrative and legal procedures, and other decisions/standards related to agency activities and IG programs sufficient to conduct interviews, inspections, and investigations to analyze the nature of the complaint and specific issues to be addressed. Knowledge of Air Force, MAJCOM, and wing/center/installation program goals and objectives; IG functions, operations, policies, procedures, and practices; the sequence and timing of key operational events and milestones; and the relationship of various installation entities involved in overall program planning and execution of military operations and evaluations.


-Current and/or prior IG experience with Department of War (DoW)
- Ability to use data analytics and visualization tools to proactively identify systemic issues, trends, and anomalies across the organization. This goes beyond simple trend analysis and allows for predictive insights into potential problem areas before they escalate.
- Formal training and experience in conflict mediation and alternative dispute resolution to effectively address tense situations, facilitate constructive dialog between parties, and find common ground to potentially resolve issues at the lowest possible level.
- Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) / Lean Six Sigma Expertise

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of a wide range of complex inspection, investigation, enforcement, and/or compliance principles, concepts, and practices; as well as knowledge of Public Laws, Executive Orders, DoW Regulations, Air Force Instructions, administrative and legal procedures, and other decisions/standards related to agency activities and IG programs sufficient to conduct interviews, inspections, and investigations to analyze the nature of the complaint and specific issues to be addressed.
2. Knowledge of Air Force, MAJCOM, and installation program goals and objectives; IG functions, operations, policies, procedures, and practices; the sequence and timing of key operational events and milestones; and the relationship of various installation entities involved in overall program planning and execution of military operations and evaluations.
3. Establishes, implements, and monitors formal metrics and review systems to measure unit efficiency, assure government standards are met, and maintain the overall economy and quality of center operations.
4. Researches, interprets, and applies guidelines to develop center-level policies and objectives that align the Air Force Inspection System (AFIS) and Complaints Resolution programs with higher headquarters' goals.
5. Organizes workflow, establishes performance priorities, manages staff training, and holds accountability for the decisions, work products, and self-assessment activities of employees.
6. Investigates, frames, and resolves complex allegations of Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA), gross mismanagement, or violations of law across diverse functional areas (e.g., logistics, personnel, finance).
7. Oversees the planning and execution of short-, mid-, and long-term inspection, self-assessment, and staff assistance programs to evaluate unit readiness, compliance, and discipline.
8. Implements the Air Force Inspection System (AFIS) and Commander's Inspection Program (CCIP) through specialized audits, surveys, and exercises to gauge leadership effectiveness and unit culture.
9. Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with senior leadership, higher headquarters, and external agencies while promoting IG approachability through public briefings and commander's calls.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
