Job Description



  • You will conduct Safety and Occupational Health surveys to evaluate the safety programs for risks or hazards in workplaces, facilities and operations (e.g., industrial, warehouse, maintenance, range, tactical safety).
  • You will perform periodic and unscheduled inspections of explosives operations and facilities to evaluate them for compliance with applicable explosives safety practices, requirements, and standards.
  • You will resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements using safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures.
  • You will evaluate and conduct special studies of training techniques and lessons plans to ensure risk assessment and safety responsibilities are defined and administered.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.


Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: planning, developing, and/or administering a safety and occupational health program; AND providing safety oversight of tactical and non-tactical operations.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.



In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify for the position based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education as follows:

GS-09:Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

Successfully completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

Successfully completed an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled.

A Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) of 8.64% will be added to the stated salary. COLA is subject to change at any time.
