Job Description



  • You will evaluate the effectiveness of existing security practices, recommend the type of control requirements, procedures, and facilities needed.
  • You will assure organization and contractor personnel are adhering to established policy and practices.
  • You will determine the kind and extent of protection required for facilities, personnel, assets and information such as layout of the area, susceptibility to theft, susceptibility to fire, and similar considerations.
  • You will interpret and implement local information security and higher-level policies and procedures to ensure networks and information systems are reliable, accessible and protected against unauthorized access.
  • You will perform assessments of planned and installed information systems to identify vulnerabilities, risks and protection needs.

  • This position is designated as a Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) position, requiring the incumbent to obtain the required Physical Security Certification (PSC) within 24 months of assuming the position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.


Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9/10 grade level or NT-03 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a Physical Security Specialist with extensive experience designing, operating, and maintaining critical physical security systems, ensuring strict compliance with local and higher-level regulatory policies.

Examples of qualifying experience include:
(1) Knowledge of Physical Security programs and requirements.
(2) Ability to interpret and implement local physical security policy and higher-level policies and procedures.
(3) Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing, in order to develop and present briefings/training.
(4) Knowledge of DOW/DON Intrusion Detection Procedures and CCTV Video Surveillance Systems.
(5) Maintains and keeps existing access control system operational. Lead on Access Control System to include operation and maintenance of the system. This includes installation of the badge readers to include all power and network components. In addition, the incumbent manages the Lenel database giving personnel access to buildings and spaces.
(6) Plans and designs installation of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) for interior and exterior access control and detection of a potential security breach into restricted or controlled areas. This includes sensors, alarms, card readers, door strikes, and closed-circuit television (CCTV).
