Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking an experienced AV-8B Mechanic III/Maintenance Controller to support the AV-8B Fleet Support Team (FST) at MCAS Cherry Point, NC.
The Aircraft Mechanic III (Maintenance Control) is required to Release Aircraft Safe for Flight, monitor maintenance SCIR documentation via the NALCOMIS /OOMA systems, review Aircraft Weight and Balance forms for accuracy, direct scheduled/unscheduled maintenance actions to meet operational tasking identified by the government/flight schedule, brief aircrew prior to Functional Check Flights (FCF), review aircrew documentation of aircraft FCF performance, authorize cannibalization, coordinate Depot Level Inspection/Repair actions, assign workload priorities, manage awaiting maintenance and material status, manage T/M/S Aircraft configuration, screen, maintain and sign Aeronautical Equipment Service Records, Aircraft Logbooks, liaison with Quality Assurance, liaison with Projects Coordinator, understand Navy Working Capital Fund concept, notify Govt. Oversight QAR's of all Flight Critical, Safety of Flight, and mandatory QA inspections, monitor high time components, establish supply priorities, and coordinate work center maintenance tasking to meet daily Flight Schedule and Ground Test Requirements. Coordinate monthly maintenance planning meetings and publish/sign monthly maintenance plan in accordance with the current COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Inspects and certifies aircraft at specific intervals as required by OEM and FAA to ensure airworthiness to include tasks that are complex to extreme difficulty.
Troubleshoots system malfunctions, performs necessary corrective actions - repairs, replaces and rebuilds aircraft structures.
Complies with Service Bulletins, Instructions and Airworthiness Directives as directed.
Direct and coordinates the inspections of airframe components for fluid leaks, cracks and other damage.
Complies with safety, foreign object damage, Egress Familiarization, and tool control program requirements.
Documents maintenance of aircraft on appropriate forms. Release Aircraft Safe for Flight, monitor maintenance SCIR documentation via NALCOMIS/OOMA system, review Aircraft Weight and Balance Forms for accuracy, direct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance actions.
Removes, replaces and repairs aircraft structural and hydraulic system components. Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft systems.
Performs corrosion control checks when required.
Exhibits positive courteous behavior with customers businesses and coworkers.
Follows all safety procedures and practices as established by the Company and regulatory bodies.
Complies with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facility and job assignment.
Ensures safety, security and preservation of government and company owned equipment.
Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
KNOWLEDGE:
Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural, power plant, modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies technical guidance and expertise in restoration of equipment condition and operation.
Reads and interprets manufacturers' publications, maintenance manuals, service bulletins and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
Satisfactory completion of U.S. Armed Forces aircraft mechanic courses and / or five (5) years experience as an aircraft mechanic
Ten (10) years recent aircraft maintenance on similar type aircraft (US Navy or USMC)
Must be familiar with aircraft systems, tools, drawings, schematics, and normal safety requirements. Must have experience in corrosion detection, treatment and prevention.
Must have completed maintenance control school, or have maintenance control experience for a minimum of five years at the Organizational Level in the applicable aircraft.
Must be able to meet any Government / Company licensing / qualification requirements for the position.
Recent experience with F-18A-F, EA-18G, MH-60S or AV-8B aircraft strongly preferred.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching and working in uncomfortable positions. Required to lift up to 50 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Potential Hazards: Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, materials identified on Material Safety Data Sheets; working at heights on or around aircraft and machinery.
Work Location: Aircraft maintenance shops, hangars, and flight line.
The diversity of working conditions may range from standard shop type environment where there is no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work where high noise hazards prevail. Will be required to wear protective clothing and other safety equipment. Will be required to work with hazardous materials.

This position is covered by a wage law called the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The wage range for this position is determined by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor on a contract-by-contract basis.
