Job Title: Technical Lead – Ceramics & Technical Lead – Aero Engines

Flexible 9/80 schedule available (every other Friday off)

Overview
Albany Engineered Composites is hiring two senior technical leaders within our Research & Technology organization. Both roles require deep expertise, strong customer engagement capabilities, and the ability to advance next‑generation 3D woven composite technologies. Candidates will be considered for either of the following positions based on background and experience:

Technical Lead, Ceramics
Technical Lead, Aero Engines

These roles share a common expectation for technical leadership, cross‑functional collaboration, and advancing AEC’s core woven composite technologies—but each has unique technical domains and responsibilities, detailed below.

Role 1: Technical Lead, Ceramics
Job Purpose
Responsible for leading high‑temperature composite technology development related to densification processes, tooling, equipment, and composite characterization. This role focuses on advancing ceramic matrix composite (CMC) and thermal protection system (TPS) technologies, improving densification methods (Carbonization, Graphitization, PIC, CVI), and driving innovation into production programs.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead application development for diversified high‑temperature composite opportunities (design, analysis, fabrication, testing).
• Lead customer‑funded and IRAD‑funded projects as required.
• Provide input to research and technology development priorities, focusing on:
– Engineered textile hypersonic applications
– Engineered textile CMC applications
– Roadmapping within Research & Technology
• Develop strategic technology plans and roadmaps for high‑temperature applications.
• Maintain internal and external technical communication focal point for all high‑temperature activities.
• Drive technology advances into production programs.
• Stay current with industry trends and represent AEC at relevant events.

Qualifications / Characteristics
• BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, Textiles Engineering, or Materials Science (or equivalent experience).
• 10+ years’ experience in high‑temperature composites and relevant production/R&D practices.
• Strong understanding of polymer and ceramic matrix composite manufacturing.
• Experience with injection/infusion, high‑temperature conversion, TPS design, and composite tooling.
• Experience with 3D woven composite design and high‑temperature processes.
• Strong communication skills, project management capability, and hands‑on problem‑solving.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Role 2: Technical Lead, Aero Engines

Job Purpose
Responsible for technical leadership supporting implementation of 3D woven composites in aero‑engine applications. This role spans concept development, structural analysis, fabrication support, customer engagement, proposal alignment with technical competencies, and identifying R&T development priorities. Strong customer interaction (domestic and international) is central to this role.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead design, structural analysis, evaluation, and fabrication of composite engine components.
• Identify and drive research and technology development to expand 3D woven composite engine applications.
• Support bids, proposals, and business development activities.
• Sustain collaborative relationships with existing customers.
• Prioritize R&T activities within the engine‑related technology space.
• Develop technology roadmaps and strategic plans for engine applications.
• Support financial planning (monthly/annual) related to engine development projects, including:
– Customer‑funded development
– Internally funded R&T
– CapEx planning/execution
• Stay current on industry trends and represent AEC at events.
• Serve as technical communication focal point for all engine‑related activities, coordinating closely with production sites.
• Drive technology advancements into production programs.

Qualifications / Characteristics
• BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, or Textiles Engineering, or Materials Science (or equivalent experience).
• 10+ years’ experience in numerical design/simulation in R&D or academic research.
• Strong understanding of composite design, material testing, performance evaluation, and modeling.
• Experience with textile preforming and RTM fabrication processes.
• Strong understanding of polymer matrix composite manufacturing.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities, attention to detail, and customer focus.

Working Conditions (Both Roles)
• Indoor production/office environment with moderate noise and machining equipment.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional 24/7 coverage as required by business needs.
• Travel may be required.
• Regular movement about office and production areas; ability to lift >10 lbs occasionally; ability to remain stationary up to 75% of the time; frequent computer use.

Clearance Requirement
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance is required for both positions.
