Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Coats surfaces of aircraft and support equipment components, accessories and related equipment, with paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin or other materials, using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other devices. May be required to perform Lead duties when designated and authorized. May be required to perform Collateral Duty Quality Control Inspector (CDQCI) duties when designated and authorized.

  • Required to handle hazardous materials in performance of assigned duties. Must be customer oriented.
  • Inspect aircraft/support equipment, components, engines and accessories for surface integrity or corrosion products in accordance with Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), Illustrated Parts
  • Breakdowns (IPBs), Technical Directives (TDs), Maintenance Check Lists (MCLs), and company work and maintenance instructions.
  • Remove paint or other protective materials using approved tools, agents and techniques.
  • Remove corrosion products using approved tools, equipment and techniques.
  • Prepare surface for painting.
  • Protect other surfaces or component parts not being painted by using masks, covers or other approved techniques.
  • Coat surfaces or aircraft components, engines or aeronautical support and appropriate materials, using approved equipment.
  • Paint insignia, letters or numerals as required.
  • Coordinate with supervision and Quality Control to resolve questions concerning serviceability and/or on repair procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work center and around your assigned work area.
  • Assist with ordering parts, tools, materials, and equipment as required.
  • Document work accomplished or Maintenance Action Forms (VIDS/MAFs) or WECMS/OOMA System.
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations including participation in FOD walk down when directed.
  • Responsible for adhering to the company tool control program.
  • Comply with established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facilities and job assignment.
  • May be required to perform simple computer input and extraction functions.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on assigned shop and support equipment.
  • Comply with established hazardous waste program and Local, State, and Federal Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
  • May be required to perform off-site services on assigned detachments.
  • Familiarization with OPNAVINST 4790.2 Series and other applicable Navy Instructions, Maintenance Instruction (MIMs), Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPBs), Technical Directives (TDs), manufacturer's manuals and company instructions.
  • Maintain knowledge of material safety data sheet and applicable safety precautions.
  • May be required to become Aircraft Jack and Support Equipment certified
  • Must be knowledgeable in handling and disposing of hazardous waste.
  • Must have a valid state operators license and be able to pass the Government licensing requirements.
  • Must be able to read, speak, write legibly, and understand the English language.
  • Assist when directed to ensure safety, security, and preservation of Government-owned and company-owned equipment.
  • May be required to perform duties of Hazardous Waste Coordinator, Chemical Waste Custodian, or Accumulation Point Coordinator when authorized and designated.
  • May be required to perform duties of Wheel and Tire Technicians and assist other technicians, specialists, workers, and mechanics during periods of personal or sick leave, vacation, breaks, reserve duty, or during increased workload periods.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator when performing assigned duties.
  • Perform other reasonable related incidental duties when directed.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Must have a minimum of HS diploma or equivalent. In the past six (6) years, must have three (3) years of experience in one of the following, (1) Corrosion identification, removal, treatment, and preservation on aircraft and aircraft components, (2) Equivalent civilian painting experience, (3) Documented completion of OJT syllabus for T/M/S (Type/Model/Series). Must also be able to satisfactorily complete one of the following: (1) Resident, (Company), 40-hour course of instruction for removal, prevention and treatment, (2) Successfully complete or possess a resident 80-hour course of instruction on Naval Aircraft Painting and Touch-up equivalent the Naval Aviation Depot (NADEP) paint course. (NOTE: Painters of Support Equipment do not require the 40-hour paint course of instruction). Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Must be able to obtain and maintain CAC and clearance required by Government. Must have a valid state DL

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Physical Demands:
This classification activity is usually accomplished in a paint shop environment and as such requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with this activity. May be required to lift objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds. Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus. Must be able to have a safe fit around the face for a full respirator.
Must successfully pass a company physical prior to employment/promotion and annually thereafter.

Work Environment:
The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards.

  • Support Equipment Operators Certification

  • Aircraft Brake Rider Certified
  • Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
