Mechanical Engineer II
NASA Glenn Research Center
Brook Park, Ohio
HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. Founded in 2004, HX5 is a fast-growing veteran and woman-owned company with locations nationwide.
HX5 is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A Mechanical Engineer is needed to support advanced structural analysis activities for a scale model distributed electric propulsion research drone as part of NASA’s Transformational Tools and Technology (TTT) project. This role expands the analytical capabilities of the team by focusing on the mechanical behavior of integrated electric propulsion motors within a flight vehicle environment.
The selected engineer will work closely with the NASA Technical Monitor and under the mentorship of a Rotordynamics subject matter expert; in addition to collaboration with structures and systems engineering team members. The position centers on conducting mechanical and structural analyses that inform motor‑to‑airframe integration, support early design decisions, and contribute to rapid hardware development cycles.
Responsibilities include performing Rotordynamics assessments, conducting static and dynamic structural analyses, applying finite element methods using multiple software tools, and evaluating the potential use of open‑source structural analysis software with AI‑enabled features. The engineer will also prepare analysis documentation, present results, and work with multidisciplinary team members to guide system design and integration activities.
Required Skills:
Education/Experience:
Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree from ABET accredited program with the following education and experience:
Other Position Requirements:
