Job Description
Reports to: Electrical Shop Foreman
Basic Functions
Performs maintenance and repair of Embassy standby electrical system, motor connections and controls and electrical service and distribution under technical guidance of the DOS Facilities Manager.
Specific Responsibilities
Repairs and maintains automatic starting system, automatic power transfer switches, operational control and alarm system; service and distribution systems including main and distribution switchboards, panel board fuses and transformers; motor connections and controls including starters and motor control centers; lighting including incandescent, fluorescent, recessed, surface, weatherproof, vapor tight and underwater; dimmers; and signal and fire alarm systems including pull stations, ionization smoke detectors, sprinkler flow switches, supervisory valve and control panels.
Performs PM in accordance with schedules, operating procedures and equipment warranty.
Performs repair of components such as rectifiers, inverters, associated generating and distribution equipment.
Conducts tests of equipment using voltmeters, ampmeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, frequency counters and other test equipment.
Adjusts components to ensure optimum operating efficiency.
Analyzes malfunctions in electrical standby power systems, distribution systems, motor connections and controls by visual and auditory inspection and makes necessary adjustments and repairs.
Maintains records of all work accomplished and parts used.
Complies with all related published directives, work standards and technical publications.
Performs a wide variety of routine electrical maintenance and repair functions of a general nature as required.
Installs and connects light fixtures, switches, wall outlets, junction boxes, circuit breakers, etc.
Tests circuits for proper connection and continuity.
Measures, bends, assembles and installs conduit to connect outlets, panels, boxes, etc.
Installs, maintains and repairs electrical equipment and appliances such as heating systems, motors, fans, lighting fixtures and connections of electrical machines, office equipment, distribution panels, elevators (power supply only), etc.
Maintains and repairs transformers, electric power production equipment, rotating and uninterrupted power systems.
Tests equipment using voltmeters, amp meters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, frequency counters, and other test equipment.
Provides escort as necessary for LES and other non-cleared workers.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE
Completion of secondary school required or obtained a GED, completion of vocational or trade school program in electrical and electronics systems producing journeyman level skill required.
Licensed journeyman electrician with minimum 5 years of progressively responsible positions in the maintenance and construction of electrical repairs and maintenance in the industry and troubleshooting electronic control systems experience required. Experience is include, but not limited to, switchgear, distribution system, and general building electrical maintenance and repair.
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, electrical schematic diagrams, PLC schematics required trade manuals, equipment operation and maintenance manuals, and electrical and electrical/ mechanical utility code books. Must be able to work on medium voltage electrical systems and transformers.
Must be able to correctly use tools of the trade, power equipment such as threaders, and drills. Possess basic computer skills, use a calculator to determine cost data and calculate man-hours for work elements, must be able to use electrical testing equipment such as ohm meters, meg-ohm meters amp meters, and other electrical component testing equipment.
Top Secret clearance is required.

- Education
