Job Description
Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking an experienced Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to support the Department of Energy and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Office of the CIO. This role supports classified IT environments and mission-critical cybersecurity initiatives across NNSA facilities nationwide. The ideal candidate will provide cyber engineering expertise, security assessments, system hardening, and technical guidance to ensure secure and compliant operations across classified networks and systems.
Work Environment:
Full-time, on-site role in Washington, DC supporting classified NNSA cybersecurity operations. Position includes participation in an on-call rotation and occasional after-hours support for mission requirements.

Work Environment:

Clearance Requirement:
- Must have an active Top Secret clearance or Q clearance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance for classified DOE/NNSA environments.
Responsibilities:
- Provide cybersecurity engineering and technical solutions supporting classified IT environments.
- Analyze complex security challenges and develop innovative solutions in areas such as information security, critical infrastructure protection, and industrial control system cybersecurity.
- Collaborate with program managers, subject matter experts, and technical teams to support mission requirements.
- Conduct cybersecurity assessments and provide consulting support to DOE/NNSA organizations and partners.
- Develop and deliver cybersecurity training for domestic and international stakeholders.
- Design, develop, and implement software and technical solutions supporting cybersecurity missions.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams conducting technical analysis, engineering, and system security activities.
- Support security planning, risk assessments, risk management, and compliance activities for enterprise systems and networks.
- Assist system architects and developers with the implementation of security controls and enterprise security policies.
- Monitor, investigate, and respond to security events using enterprise cybersecurity tools.
- Provide technical expertise supporting secure Microsoft and Linux environments.
- Support on-call and surge operations outside normal business hours as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
- 10+ years of experience in information assurance (ISSO/ISSE/ISSM).
- Experience supporting classified environments and federal cybersecurity operations.
- Hands-on experience with cybersecurity tools including Splunk, RSA, Tenable Nessus, and SELinux .
- Strong understanding of network security concepts including ports, protocols, and services.
- Experience supporting security assessments, system hardening, risk management, and information assurance activities.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with SentinelOne endpoint security solutions.
- Experience with IDS/IPS technologies and network security monitoring.
- Experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) .
- Experience supporting Microsoft and Linux enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with Ansible automation and enterprise management platforms such as GEMS, SIMS, or Sentris.
- Experience supporting DOE, NNSA, DoD, or other federal cybersecurity environments.
Compensation:
- Pay range: $160,000 - $170,000 (Based on years of relevant experience)
