Job Description

Duties

  • Provide comprehensive technical services, identifying, evaluating, and recommending solutions to complex air traffic control equipment problems.
  • Perform work that may be strenuous, involving climbing tall ladders and towers, with regular exposure to potentially dangerous situations.
  • Perform on-site independent repair, alteration, analysis, installation, modification, evaluation and certification of complex electronic, power, communications, and navigational systems.
  • Use a variety of reference materials to perform work independently using judgement, initiative and resourceful methods.
  • Perform tests, inspections, and repairs of Air Traffic Control Equipment.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Pre-employment physical and annual physicals are required while in the position.
  • Position is Non-Critical Sensitive (Tier 3) and requires employee to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Must be able to maintain a valid State issued driver's license.
  • This position has been identified as critical and is covered by the Alcohol and Drub Abuse Prevention and Control Program.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Position has been designated Key and Mission Essential.
  • This is an Inclement Weather position.
  • May be required to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Temporary duty (TDY) may be required up to 10%.
  • Heavy lifting may be required up to 75%.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. One year of specialized experience which includes: 1. Testing and/or aligning electrical and/or electromechanical Air Traffic Control equipment; 2. Performing on the spot adjustments to Air Traffic Control electrical systems; and 3. Maintaining interrelated computer systems related to Air Traffic Control. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11 or above).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
