Job Description

Duties

  • You will have oversight of the Code 300 Surface Ship Safety (SSS) surveillance program, including use of the Quality Performance System (QPS) for Surface Ship Safety (SSS) assessment entries
  • You will assist with investigations and mitigation assessments, prepare, analyze, issue reports, memos, and Memorandums of Agreement (MOAs) as well as Review Prerequisite Lists (PRLs) for HREs.
  • You will review and recommend updates for NNSY instructions and documents to ensure alignment with current SSS requirements.
  • You will manage the NNSY P4710.40 SSS training and qualification program.
  • You will develop and mentor newly qualified Ship Safety Officers (SSSOs), coordinating the development and conduct of NNSY P4710.40 SSS quarterly refresher training.
  • You will participate in the weekly fire safety inspections with the Fire Department Fire Safety Inspector.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Radcon qualification of "R" or "J" certification in order to obtain dosimetry.
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience applying a wide range of concepts and practices in surface ship safety ensuring the safe operation, maintenance, and repair direction of surface ships during NNSY availabilities.
  • Experience controlling work/testing affecting ship conditions, safe conduct of HREs and the prevention and control of fire and flooding casualties.
  • Experience with safe execution of work/testing of ship conditions (trim, list, stability, buoyancy and watertight integrity) and the safe conduction of High-Risk Evolutions (HREs) at a Shipyard as well as off-station availabilities.
  • Experience providing recommendations for the preparation, issue, maintenance, and effectiveness of the Surface Ship Safety Officer (SSSO) Status Sheet (SSSOSS) for surface ships in Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) availabilities and the Safety of Ship Maintenance Item List (SOSMIL) for non-CNO availabilities.
  • Experience applying appropriate guidance pertaining to surface ship safety to include NAVSEA and NNSY Standards, regulations, instructions and orders.
  • Experience executing fire/flooding drills as required and providing oversight to ensure satisfactory drill performance to resolve conflicts or issues that may arise between Ship's Force, the project, outside contractors and NNSY.
