Zachary Piper Solutions, LLC is currently seeking an Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to support a contract with the Department of Energy (DOE) / National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Office of the CIO (OCIO) based in Washington, D.C. (with operations across multiple U.S. facilities). This position is a full-time role that will be primarily onsite within secure environments .

This role is critical in safeguarding classified IT systems and national security assets. As an ISSE, you will play a pivotal role in advancing cybersecurity engineering, compliance, and operational resilience in support of nuclear security missions, including stockpile management, nonproliferation, and infrastructure protection.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide innovative cybersecurity solutions by collaborating with subject matter experts and program managers to address complex challenges in:
  • Critical infrastructure & industrial control systems (ICS)
  • Information security and compliance
• Design and implement technical cybersecurity solutions aligned with sponsor requirements and mission objectives.
• Conduct cybersecurity assessments and consulting efforts for DOE/NNSA facilities as part of multi-disciplinary and multi-lab teams.
• Develop and deliver cybersecurity training to domestic and international partners.
• Engineer software and technical solutions supporting Global Material Security (GMS) missions.
• Collaborate frequently with cybersecurity experts to share insights, recommendations, and best practices.
• Manage multiple concurrent priorities to ensure timely delivery of customer and stakeholder requirements.
• Assist architects and developers in embedding security functionality aligned with enterprise security policies.
• Support security planning, risk analysis, certification, and awareness for systems and network operations.
• Utilize and maintain advanced cybersecurity tools and platforms in both Microsoft and Linux environments.

Required Qualifications:

• Active Top Secret Clearance or DoE Q
• Ability to work onsite in Washington, DC
• Proven experience with:
  • Splunk
  • RSA security solutions
  • Tenable Nessus
  • SELinux
• Strong understanding of:
  • Ports, protocols, and network services
• Demonstrated ability to:
  • Operate in classified or highly secure IT environments
  • Analyze and solve complex cybersecurity problems
  • Collaborate across technical and organizational teams
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with:
  • SentinelOne (EDR)
  • IDS/IPS solutions
  • Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM)
• Experience working with:
  • Ansible
  • GEMS / SIMS / Sentris platforms
• Willingness to participate in:
  • On-call rotations
  • Surge support outside standard EST business hours (as needed)

Compensation to include:

• Salary Range: $160,000 - $170,000 depending on experience
• Full Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, PTO, Sick Leave (as required by law)
