Description

Leidos is seeking a Site Activation Lead to support the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) program. This role will lead on-site deployment and activation activities for next-generation air traffic control systems, working closely with FAA personnel to install, configure, test, and commission mission-critical technology.

This position includes international deployment to Kazakhstan in support of a strategic modernization effort and offers the opportunity to support one of the FAA's most significant modernization initiatives while working alongside industry experts to deliver mission-critical air traffic control capabilities.

Site Activation Lead Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all deployment activities, communications, and planning efforts directly with FAA and Leidos personnel.
  • Provide daily project status updates, including in-briefs/out-briefs, schedule status, material deliveries, subcontractor activities, and deployment progress.
  • Assist FAA Technical Operations (TO) personnel with deployment and certification of the ERAM Technical Refresh system following installation activities.
  • Maintain an on-site electronic deployment schedule for each ERAM location from General Acceptance (GA) through completion of contractor maintenance responsibilities.
  • Perform software installations, firmware upgrades, and other system maintenance activities.
  • Perform on-site maintenance in accordance with approved technical manuals and procedures.
  • Assist TO personnel with periodic maintenance and system certification following hardware maintenance activities.
  • Assist TO personnel with equipment relocation and certification following hardware relocation activities.
  • Provide technical expertise to local TO personnel during ERAM system maintenance activities, including system monitoring, troubleshooting, and replacement of failed Line Replaceable Units (LRUs).
  • Assist with site spare equipment administration.
  • Maintain technical documentation, system data files, maintenance logs, and performance records.
  • Collaborate effectively across engineering, logistics, subcontractors, and FAA stakeholders to ensure successful site activation and customer satisfaction.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience) with 4+ years of professional experience; or a Master's degree with 2+ years of professional experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA Public Trust Suitability determination.
  • Must possess (or be able to obtain prior to deployment) a valid passport with sufficient validity to support international travel.
  • Must be willing and able to deploy internationally to Kazakhstan for assignments of up to 90 consecutive days.
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal and corporate excellence, integrity, and ethical behavior.


Deployment Details
  • Approximately 9-month project assignment, including training and deployment phases.
  • International assignments include up to 90-day rotations in Kazakhstan during installation and commissioning activities.
  • Current project schedule (subject to change):
    • Phase 1 – Training: October – November 2026
    • Phase 2 – Installation & Commissioning: December 2026 – July 2027
  • Company-paid travel to and from deployment locations.
  • Company-arranged lodging.
  • Per diem provided in accordance with current U.S. State Department rates.
  • Visa/work authorization assistance provided, if applicable.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting FAA or other Air Traffic Management systems.
  • Familiarity with FAA NextGen initiatives, including ERAM, ATOP, TBFM, or similar modernization programs.
  • Experience leading or supporting complex field deployments or site activation activities.
  • Experience coordinating across engineering, logistics, subcontractors, and customer organizations.
  • Experience with project planning, cost estimating, or Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Experience working in Waterfall and/or Agile project environments.


Work Environment
  • Work is performed in operational FAA facilities and equipment rooms.
  • Position requires extended standing, walking, and occasional lifting of equipment.
  • Domestic and international travel is required throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Must be able to work in operational environments while adhering to FAA safety and security requirements.
