Zachary Piper Solutions is currently seeking a Sr. RHEL Engineer to support a United States Air Force (USAF) program based in Chantilly, Virginia . This position is a full-time role that will be fully onsite . This position is critical in safeguarding enterprise systems and ensuring compliance with stringent Department of Defense security standards. As a Sr. RHEL Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in secure system configuration, STIG compliance validation, and large-scale enterprise endpoint management within a high-stakes environment supporting approximately 50,000 global endpoints.

This position is a full-time role that will be fully onsite . This position is critical in safeguarding enterprise systems and ensuring compliance with stringent Department of Defense security standards. As a Sr. RHEL Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in secure system configuration, STIG compliance validation, and large-scale enterprise endpoint management within a high-stakes environment supporting approximately 50,000 global endpoints.
Key Responsibilities:
- Configure systems in accordance with DISA STIG requirements and ensure enterprise-wide compliance.
- Validate, assess, and report STIG compliance across systems using tools such as SteelCloud ConfigOS.
- Administer and maintain applications in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.
- Develop, maintain, and debug shell scripts to support application and system management.
- Support large-scale endpoint deployments and compliance efforts across global environments.
- Manage and evaluate web servers, application servers, containerized applications, and database systems to ensure secure configurations without disrupting services.
- Work within virtualized and cloud environments including Hyper-V and Microsoft Azure.
- Support and maintain Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) components.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure operational success and compliance.
- Communicate effectively (written and verbal) in a mission-driven environment.
Requirements:
- Active SECRET security clearance
- 10+ years of relevant experience (Bachelor's degree may substitute for 5 years of experience)
- Strong expertise in RHEL system administration and application support
- Deep knowledge of DISA STIG implementation, validation, and troubleshooting
- Experience with enterprise tools such as SteelCloud ConfigOS
- Proficiency with scripting (e.g., Bash, Shell scripting)
- Working knowledge of cloud and virtual platforms (Azure, Hyper-V)
- Understanding of PKI concepts and implementation
Desired Qualifications:
- DoD 8140 compliant certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+)
- CISSP, CISM, or other advanced cybersecurity certifications
- Experience with ServiceNow workflows and automation
- Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory / Entra ID
- Experience creating dashboards in Microsoft Power BI
- Familiarity with NIST frameworks and other compliance standards
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment
- Commitment to staying up to date with emerging cybersecurity trends and tools
Compensation to include:
- Salary Range: $140,000 - $145,000 **depending on experience**
