Job Description

THOR Solutions is actively seeking an Electrical Engineer to support Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Navigation & Electrical (C4N&E) activities at Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) in Panama City, FL. The engineer will support the In-Service Engineering Agent's (ISEA) electrical/computer systems engineering efforts. An ideal candidate will possess experience supporting engineering efforts for a major NAVSEA, NAVAIR, Navy, or DoD equivalent programs.

Typical Responsibilities:
  • Technically support the Government in conducting requirements definition and analysis, electrical design, design implementation, design integration, and verification and validation activities.
  • Conduct analysis of alternatives for potential solutions to system issues and enhancements to provide recommendations for Government approval.
  • Work on Ultra High Frequency (UHF) /Very High Frequency (VHF) /High Frequency (HF) communication systems.
  • Ensure external interfaces match the specification, including voltage level and timing.
  • Simulate the design at various levels to include Automated Computer Aided Design (Auto CAD) or Solid Works modeling for all system and subsystem components, build 2D and 3D models.
  • Ensure temporary installations and design corrections do not compromise the safety of the system, craft, or any personnel.
  • Participate in reverse engineering efforts.
  • Develop or analyze Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designs.
  • Develop embedded systems using Versa Module Europa (VME), CompaqPCI, PC-104, and small form factor black box architectures.

Location: Full time onsite at NSWC PCD in Panama City, FL.

Travel: Up to 10% travel anticipated.

Typical Physical Activity: Desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. May require periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., tight spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.

Existing SECRET Security Clearance Required: This position requires an existing active or interim Secret security clearance prior to hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore, only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position.
  • An otherwise strongly qualified candidate with highly relevant experience but no current security clearance may be considered, but clearance must be obtained prior to hire.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar discipline from an accredited institution.
  • At least five (5) years of relevant professional experience, preferably obtained in a US Navy/DoD environment.
  • Knowledge/experience with 2D/3D CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, KiCad, or others).
  • Applied engineering experience on marine, aircraft or other military platform; designing or maintaining systems to meet environmental requirements of their operational environment.
  • Proficiency with common productivity software including the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Knowledge or experience with:
    • Maritime Navigation requirements;
    • Network systems, Modbus and/or Modbus Transmission Control Protocol (TCP);
    • MIL-STD-1553C interface specifications;
    • Controller Area Network bus (CANbus);
    • Data Acquisition Units (DAU);
    • The application of sensor technologies in military applications
