LOCATION: Kennedy Space Center, Merritt Island, FL

JOB STATUS: Full-time, Second Shift

CERTIFICATION: N/A

TRAVEL: Limited; as needed

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Chemist III supporting the Laboratory Support Services and Operations (LASSO) II contract located at Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, FL.

This position is being hired to support 2nd shift operations. However, the individuals will be required to train on 1st shift for an initial period to ensure full proficiency with operational procedures, equipment, and safety requirements. Additionally, based on mission needs and workload demands, the employee may be asked to provide continued or periodic support to 1st shift on a long‑term basis.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS :
  • Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline
  • 7 years of relevant experience.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses or experiments in laboratories for quality or process control or to develop new products or knowledge.
  • Develop and implement analytical methods for the chemical and physical testing of trace contaminants in various matrices for conformance to specification standards.
  • Assist laboratory activities in determining analytical and intricate testing of aerospace systems and commodities.
  • Perform laboratory investigations, troubleshooting of analytical problems and technology transfer of analytical methods.
  • Train Laboratory Technicians to approved Technical Operating Procedures including on-the-job training of technicians.
  • Serve as a Safety Technical Director on approval of the Operations Laboratory Manager.
  • Serve as a Hazardous Waste Management POC or Internal Compliance Auditor as directed by management.
  • Implement the Business System Program and all related compliance standards.
  • Provide field support of extraordinary or unusual nature.
  • Write analytical laboratory procedures, protocols and compliance documents.
  • Participate and contribute to safety programs, perform instrument audits and maintain an orderly and safe laboratory environment.
  • Use computer-assisted automation and data calculation to analyze results.
  • Ensure the availability of adequate supplies of laboratory chemicals, instrumentation, and equipment for the laboratory operation.
  • Ensure calibration and standardization guidelines are followed.
  • Perform general laboratory analyses as dictated by workload.
  • Coordinate and provide technical assistance to NASA/Contractor personnel.
  • Assure that laboratory practices conform to certifications and compliance standards, as required.
  • Provide computer support to the CRCA and interface with IT regarding computer systems/software when required.
