Position Summary
At MAG, we provide and enable real-time situational awareness to help our customers make the world smaller and safer. We are laser focused on serving our customers by providing technical expertise, operational excellence, and flawless execution. Our success is due entirely to the high caliber of employees we recruit, hire, and retain. At MAG, we look for individuals who thrive in a high-performance environment where challenges are the norm and success is expected.
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer provides ruggedized mechanical design, packaging, thermal, and integration engineering across MAG Aerospace's U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) command and control portfolio: mobile command platforms, fixed and survivable C2 facilities, and integration and training sites. The mobile C2 platform is the current anchor, where the engineer leads vehicle integration and the modular mission bay, and the same design discipline applies to fixed-facility mechanical design, survivable enclosures, and site integration across the portfolio.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead mechanical design and integration of the C2 capability package into armored and tactical ground vehicles, including equipment mounting, load paths, center-of-gravity management, and structural attachment against shock and vibration requirements.
- Design the mechanical mounting, packaging, and thermal management of power-system components, including alternators, battery bank, and inverter, in coordination with the electrical engineer who owns the power-electrical design.
- Design modular mission bays and standardized mission-interface planes that install across multiple vehicle types with minimal variation.
- Design HEMP-survivable enclosure structures to MIL-STD-188-125-2 short-pulse shielding criteria: welded conductive shells, EMI-gasketed access doors, waveguide-below-cutoff thermal vents, and filtered points of entry for power, RF, and fiber.
- Develop thermal management and airflow solutions that meet equipment cooling loads within vehicle constraints while preserving shielding effectiveness.
- Manage size, weight, and power budgets within vehicle cargo and payload limits, and produce installation drawings, mounting designs, and platform-agnostic integration packages.
- Conduct platform survey and physical integration analysis for new vehicle types, and coordinate armoring and fabrication subcontractors and mechanical interface control.
- Lead mechanical design reviews and support program technical reviews.
Requirements
REQUIRED / MINIMUM SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Expert mechanical design for ruggedized electronic enclosures and equipment integration into ground vehicles.
- Demonstrated experience integrating equipment into armored or tactical vehicles, including mounting, packaging, and thermal integration within vehicle constraints.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent) and engineering drawing to ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Working knowledge of MIL-STD-810 (environmental), MIL-STD-461 (EMI/EMC), and MIL-STD-188-125 (HEMP) as they drive mechanical design.
- Experience with mechanical packaging and thermal management of vehicle power components (alternators, batteries, inverters).
- Experience with blind-mate connector systems (MIL-DTL-38999) and standardized modular chassis ecosystems (CMOSS/SOSA, VITA) at the mechanical level.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED SKILLS
- Experience with HEMP or TEMPEST-shielded enclosure fabrication and shielding-effectiveness verification.
- Experience designing fixed command and control operations spaces, including site surveys and evaluation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing considerations.
- Familiarity with ICD 705 physical security and construction requirements for sensitive compartmented information facilities.
- Finite element analysis for structural and thermal design.
- Prior U.S. military service, or direct experience supporting U.S. military operations.
- An active or current Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) clearance.
- Experience supporting nuclear command, control, and communications (NC3), strategic communications, or continuity-of-operations programs.
