Job Description

SMS has an immediate opening for a Network Support Center (NSC) Network Technician - Mid on our Cryptologic and Cyber Systems Division (CCSD) team at our Lackland Air Force Base site in San Antonio, TX. Our team supports the CCSD by ensuring communications are secure and protected against Cyber threats while provide continuous access for authorized users.

Provides comprehensive support, installation, and maintenance for secure and non-secure voice, data, and transmission systems, including telecommunications infrastructure, VTC, and network operations.

Ensures reliable system performance through troubleshooting, network management, and technical support while supporting facility upgrades and communications projects in compliance with DoD and industry standards.

Job Responsibilities

  • Voice systems - Provide support for secure and non-secure voice systems, which include VoIP system and end instruments, distribution systems, outlets, encryption devices, signaling parameters (e.g. TDM, VoIP, Session Initiated Protocol (SIP), H.323 signaling protocol, etc), feature capabilities, conference capabilities, and trunk interfaces with variety of protocols.
  • Data systems - Support secure and non-secure data systems, such as Internet Protocol (IP) equipment, Network Management equipment, Switching Systems, Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Systems, Channel Service Units, Digital Service Units, Cryptographic equipment and patch facilities.
  • Transmission Systems - Maintain and support secure and non-secure transmission systems, such as fiber optic media, media converters, copper media, and cryptographic equipment.
  • Video and Public Address Systems - Installation, configuration and sustainment support for VTC Systems/Suites, Conference Room Systems, and Public Address Systems.
  • Provide multi-media coordination and assistance supporting the setup of conferences, meetings, and Video Teleconference (VTC) operations.
  • Telecommunications Construction Support - Provide telecommunications construction support to include, but not limited to; design support, establishing communication rooms, renovation of distribution support, modification of secure facilities to accommodate telecommunication support in accordance with Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and DoD directives. Conform to the following industry practices; Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI), National Electric Code, and International Organization of Standardization
  • (ISO 9000). The buildings would include but not be limited to housing cryptographic, COMSEC/INFOSEC, IA, and Communication Systems. This work is limited to incidental modification related to telecommunications installation projects and would involve minimal real property modification.
  • Problem Resolution - Provide IT support to resolve and document problems, using appropriate ticketing systems. Escalate problems to the appropriate organization or process, when required. Utilize the priority matrix, as identified in section 7, as an order to responding to service requests (e.g. trouble tickets).
  • Network Management - Support capabilities allowing assumption of control of an end user device for problem analysis and resolution.


Required Qualifications

  • Background and Experiences
    • 3-5 years of directly related experience in Network Administration and support. Experience in supporting classified intelligence networks is a plus.
    • Required: proficiency in Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Products, Microsoft Active Directory.
    • nformation Systems Support - Provide support to the following information systems, to include but not limited to, JWICS, NIPRNet, SIPRNet, NSANet, and Tier networks.
    • Ability to work effectively independently as well as within a team environment
    • Demonstrated a strong work ethic and ability and willingness to take on new challenges
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to follow policies and procedures
    • Ability to communicate in a clear speaking voice as well as the ability to respond clearly to questions
    • Aptitude to address negative situations, and resolve them in a positive manner
    • Must be U.S. citizen


  • Certifications Required
    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
    • IAT-II: Security+ CE, or CCSP


  • Clearance Required
    • Must hold an active DoD TS/SCI clearance or a Top Secret with the ability to obtain a SCI.
