Position Overview
Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking an experienced Systems Architect to lead the design, architecture, and modernization of secure Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and enterprise virtualization environments supporting mission-critical operations. This role is responsible for developing scalable, resilient, and secure infrastructure architectures while providing technical leadership for virtualization, networking, endpoint security, automation, and technical risk mitigation initiatives.
The selected candidate will architect enterprise VDI solutions utilizing VMware Horizon, Cisco HyperFlex, and supporting technologies while collaborating with systems engineers, network engineers, and cybersecurity teams to ensure secure, high-performance enterprise infrastructure. This position requires deep expertise in virtualization architecture, systems engineering, endpoint technologies, and Zero Trust principles to support evolving enterprise mission requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Architect, design, and oversee the implementation of secure VMware Horizon Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments supporting enterprise operations.
• Develop scalable and resilient enterprise virtualization architectures utilizing VMware Horizon, VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and Cisco HyperFlex technologies.
• Design enterprise VDI solutions supporting Windows, Linux, and Android emulation workloads with high availability, security, and performance.
• Architect and optimize Cisco HyperFlex hyperconverged infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, and virtualization resources.
• Develop enterprise standards for Windows 11 and Linux golden images, ensuring consistency, security, and operational efficiency across virtual desktop deployments.
• Design GPU virtualization strategies to optimize Android emulator performance within virtual desktop environments.
• Architect automated deployment, provisioning, patching, and lifecycle management solutions for enterprise desktop environments.
• Develop infrastructure automation strategies utilizing scripting and workflow automation to improve operational efficiency and reduce administrative overhead.
• Provide architectural guidance for integrating enterprise networking technologies, including firewalls, VPNs, endpoint security, network segmentation, and Zero Trust architectures.
• Support technical risk assessments involving enterprise IT systems, virtualization platforms, cloud technologies, mobile computing, communication protocols, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
• Develop enterprise systems architecture documentation, technical roadmaps, engineering standards, and infrastructure design artifacts.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity, network engineering, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure enterprise architectures meet security, compliance, and operational requirements.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend architectural improvements that strengthen enterprise resilience, scalability, and security.
• Support architecture reviews, engineering governance activities, compliance initiatives, and infrastructure modernization efforts.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and architectural guidance to engineering teams supporting enterprise virtualization and infrastructure operations.
Mandatory Skills
• Demonstrated experience architecting and designing enterprise Virtual Desktop Infrastructure utilizing: VMware Horizon, VMware vSphere, VMware ESXi, and VMware vCenter
• Hands-on experience designing and supporting hyperconverged infrastructure, particularly Cisco HyperFlex.
• Extensive experience designing enterprise Windows Server environments including: Active Directory (AD), Group Policy (GPO), DNS, and DHCP
• Experience architecting Linux-based enterprise environments utilizing CentOS and Ubuntu.
• Experience with Teradici technologies and PCoIP protocol optimization.
• Experience designing standardized Windows and Linux golden image strategies.
• Experience developing infrastructure automation solutions for virtual desktop deployment and lifecycle management.
• Strong understanding of enterprise systems architecture, virtualization, infrastructure engineering, and secure endpoint technologies.
• Experience supporting highly available, scalable, and secure enterprise environments.
• Strong analytical, systems integration, troubleshooting, and architectural planning skills.
• Excellent technical documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
