Job Description

Koniag Operations Services, LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Lead HVAC Mechanic with a TS/SCI security clearance to support KOS and our government customer in Washington, DC. This position is for a Future New Business Opportunity.

Koniag Operating Services, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking an experienced Lead HVAC Mechanic to join our team in Washington, DC, supporting facilities operations for our government customer. The ideal candidate is a skilled and motivated leader with a strong background in HVAC systems installation, maintenance, and repair, and a demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team of HVAC technicians.

The Lead HVAC Mechanic will be responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems across residential, commercial, and industrial settings in support of our government customer. This role includes managing a team of HVAC technicians, coordinating HVAC projects, troubleshooting complex system issues, and ensuring all work is completed efficiently and in compliance with applicable codes, safety regulations, and contractual requirements. The Lead HVAC Mechanic plays a key role in ensuring that all HVAC systems operate at peak performance and continue to meet the operational needs of the customer.

Principal responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of HVAC technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance oversight to ensure high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety standards.
  • Oversee and perform the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide variety of HVAC systems, including heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex HVAC system issues, utilizing technical expertise and diagnostic tools to identify root causes and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate and manage HVAC projects from initiation through completion, ensuring work is performed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance inspections on HVAC systems to identify deficiencies, assess system performance, and proactively address potential failures before they occur.
  • Ensure all HVAC work is performed in compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards.
  • Serve as a technical resource and escalation point for HVAC technicians when complex or high-priority issues arise.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, parts usage, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager, building managers, and other facility personnel to schedule and execute HVAC work with minimal disruption to building occupants and operations.
  • Monitor inventory of HVAC parts, equipment, and supplies, and coordinate procurement as needed to support ongoing operations.
  • Review and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals to support installation and repair activities.
  • Ensure team compliance with all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Support quality assurance efforts by inspecting completed work and verifying that all installations and repairs meet applicable standards and customer requirements.


Education and Experience:

Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair, with demonstrated experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification required.
  • Must possess current training certifications and annual continuing education certificates in HVAC-related fields.


Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, including heating, cooling, ventilation, refrigeration, and air distribution systems across residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, and coordinate a team of HVAC technicians in a fast-paced facilities environment.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting complex HVAC system malfunctions and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local building codes, safety regulations, and environmental compliance requirements governing HVAC systems and refrigerant handling.
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification with demonstrated experience in proper refrigerant handling, recovery, and disposal practices.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Experience performing and overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance programs for HVAC systems.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to coordinate with facility managers, project managers, contractors, and government stakeholders.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment, including strict adherence to OSHA standards, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and proper PPE usage.
  • Ability to maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and project documentation.


Clearance Requirement:
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance.


Desired Skills and Competencies:
  • Associate's degree or technical certification in HVAC Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification in one or more specialty areas.
  • Experience working in a federal government facilities management or operations and maintenance environment.
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and energy management control systems.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 General Industry certification.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for tracking work orders, maintenance activities, and parts inventory.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency and sustainability best practices as they relate to HVAC systems and federal facilities.
  • Experience supporting facilities operations under government service contracts or Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract vehicles.
