Job Description
Cloud Database Administrator to support the design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of cloud-based database systems across complex federal environments. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in cloud platforms, database technologies, automation, and security to ensure resilient, high-performance, highly available data services that meet mission-critical requirements.
Responsibilities:
Install, configure, patch, and upgrade database servers and related tools in IL5 and IL6 environments, including applying hot fixes, service packs, and version upgrades.
Monitor database performance and proactively identify opportunities for tuning and optimization.
Design, implement, and manage database backup, recovery, retention, and archiving strategies.
Manage database security, including roles, permissions, encryption (including row-level), auditing, and IAM integrations.
Administer Oracle or SQL Server environments, including multiple databases supporting individual applications.
Configure, validate, and manage database functionality once systems are migrated into IL5/6 environments.
Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as indexing, statistics updates, storage optimization, and cleanup.
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve database issues including performance bottlenecks, slow queries, connectivity issues, replication failures, and data corruption.
Support data migrations, database design, schema optimization, and modernization initiatives.
Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness using technologies such as clustering, replication, and failover systems.
Document database configurations, operational procedures, runbooks, and architecture diagrams.
Design, deploy, and administer database solutions across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) using services such as RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL, and Cloud SQL.
Perform configuration, performance tuning, monitoring, backup/recovery, patching, and replication on cloud-hosted databases.
Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) templates (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM) to automate database provisioning and configuration.
Optimize query performance, indexing strategies, storage usage, and execution plans for mission-critical applications.
Implement, monitor, and maintain cloud-based high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
Ensure adherence to federal security standards (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53) for database security, encryption, IAM, auditing, and compliance.
Collaborate with application teams, cloud engineers, DevOps, and cybersecurity teams to design scalable, secure, and resilient data architectures.
Troubleshoot production and non-production database incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Support migration of legacy on-prem database systems to cloud-native or cloud-hosted architectures.
Maintain documentation for cloud database configurations, operational processes, and data workflows.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent experience.
5+ years Experience administering cloud databases in AWS, Azure, GCP or OCI.
