RF/Microwave Design Engineer
Location: Point Mugu, CA
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated RF/Microwave Design Engineer to join a dynamic engineering team supporting advanced military communications and RF systems. This role offers the opportunity to develop and test solutions for complex technical challenges while supporting the design, integration, evaluation, and sustainment of mission-critical systems. The ideal candidate is a systems-minded engineer with experience in RF technologies, system testing, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Testing & Validation
Develop, execute, and refine subsystem Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs).
Support laboratory testing and evaluation of system performance against functional and RF requirements.
Operate RF systems, test equipment, and associated hardware to verify compliance with specifications.
Assist with firmware, software, and hardware integration testing activities.
Analyze test results, identify performance issues, and recommend corrective actions.
RF Systems Engineering
Support the development and analysis of RF and microwave communication systems.
Perform performance analysis and data analysis to evaluate system effectiveness.
Assist senior engineers in creating and documenting system architectures, including:
Power diagrams
RF block diagrams
Functional block diagrams
Review and evaluate electro-mechanical drawings and system design documentation.
Support RF systems development activities throughout the system lifecycle.
Troubleshooting & Technical Support
Investigate and troubleshoot system failures, integration issues, and performance deficiencies.
Participate in bench-level prototyping and evaluation of system designs.
Support technical assessments of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) components for integration into new systems.
Provide engineering recommendations based on performance, size, weight, power, reliability, and maintainability requirements.
Configuration Management & Documentation
Support configuration management processes for system modifications after baseline establishment.
Review technical documentation for accuracy and completeness, including:
Design documentation
Operational procedures
User manuals
Training materials
Technical publications
Operational checklists
Ensure engineering artifacts align with customer requirements and applicable standards.
Systems Development Support
Follow U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) operational scenarios, requirements, and DoDAF architecture frameworks during system development activities.
Support thermal, safety, and reliability analyses.
Assist in developing design enhancements that improve system supportability and maintainability.
Research and recommend COTS solutions to meet customer performance requirements.
Required Qualifications
Experience with RF systems development and testing.
Knowledge of RF, microwave, wireless networking, or telecommunications systems.
Ability to analyze system performance and test data.
Experience troubleshooting complex hardware and integrated systems.
Strong technical documentation review and development skills.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.
Self-motivated with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with wireless communication systems.
Knowledge of radio frequency (RF) network architectures.
Familiarity with system design and engineering documentation.
Experience supporting military or defense-related programs.
Understanding of DoDAF architectures and systems engineering processes.
Experience with hardware prototyping and COTS component evaluation.
