Job Description

Duties

  • You will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, disposal of sludge, and minor repair of facilities and equipment.
  • You will monitor various computer screens to ensure the correct plant cycling and to verify that operational parameter settings are correct for current conditions.
  • You will coordinate with other operators the maintenance, calibrations, and repair of flow meters, chart recorders, chlorinators, tank level indicators, transducers, dissolved oxygen meters, and pH meters.
  • You will maintain and repair motors, a sludge collection drive mechanism, comminutors, blowers, air diffusers, gear boxes, airlift and centrifugal pumps, timer controls, and flow metering system.
  • You will determine and orders equipment and materials needed for treatment facilities and laboratory as needed.
  • You will be responsible for proper care, storage, and utilization of equipment and supplies.
  • You will be responsible for operating the treatment and laboratory facilities in such a manner to ensure compliance with state and federal permit and certification requirements.

  • Employee must obtain Grade 1 certification for Wastewater and Water Distribution within one year of being placed in the position.
  • Employee must obtain Grade 1 Wastewater Operator certification within one year of being placed in the position.
  • Employee must become a licensed Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester within one year of being placed in the position.
  • Employee must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to pass a driver's test to obtain a government operators permit.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

WG-10: Performing common tasks including adhering to safety procedures in mixing chemicals; checking equipment for proper operation and malfunctions and complying with established instructions and regulations. Works under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

WG-08: Performing tasks similar to those at the WG-10 level, but under a closer supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

The Incumbent needs to have the ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors to differentiate chemical and water colors in laboratory analysis.
