Configuration Management Specialist
Position Overview

Herdt Consulting is seeking an experienced Configuration Management Specialist to support a major Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) enterprise IT modernization program. This role supports the full lifecycle of highly complex information systems by ensuring configuration integrity, baseline management, and disciplined change control across enterprise environments.

The ideal candidate is an experienced configuration management professional with a strong understanding of enterprise IT governance, configuration baseline management, audit support, and Configuration Control Board (CCB) operations.

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant Configuration Management experience supporting enterprise IT systems
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead or support configuration management activities throughout the system development lifecycle.
  • Establish, maintain, and control functional, allocated, and physical configuration baselines.
  • Facilitate and advise Configuration Control Boards (CCBs).
  • Review Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and assess impacts to system baselines and logistics support.
  • Maintain configuration control records, documentation, and technical artifacts.
  • Prepare change authorization and implementation documentation.
  • Support configuration audits and ensure compliance with established configuration management processes.
  • Partner with engineering, quality assurance, logistics, and program management teams to maintain accurate product baselines.
  • Ensure configuration management activities align with government standards and contractual requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant Configuration Management experience supporting enterprise IT systems.
  • Demonstrated experience providing configuration baseline control throughout the lifecycle of complex information systems.
  • Experience supporting software and hardware configuration management activities.
  • Experience facilitating or participating in Configuration Control Boards (CCBs).
  • Experience supporting configuration audits and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Strong understanding of configuration management principles, processes, and best practices.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Experience supporting Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), Department of Defense (DoD), or other federal agencies.
  • Experience supporting enterprise IT modernization, sustainment, or lifecycle management programs.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools, change management processes, and ITIL-based service management environments.
