Overview
i3 is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the U.S. Army Launched Effects Product Office in Huntsville, AL at Redstone Arsenal. The Launched Effects Product Office develops and fields cutting-edge Launched Effects systems to enhance lethality, survivability, situational awareness, and operational reach for Soldiers. This position supports a dynamic team focused on rapid innovation and delivery of transformative capabilities to the warfighter.
The Systems Engineer will support development, integration, operational/technical support, and sustainment of Army Uncrewed Launched Effects platforms across the full product lifecycle, including prototyping, requirements development, system design, integration, testing, qualification, production, fielding, training, sustainment, and modernization. This position requires an understanding of systems engineering principles, engineering drawings and technical documentation, requirements development and traceability, hardware and software integration, logistics engineering, supply chain considerations, production, training, and lifecycle management activities supporting aviation, uncrewed, missile, weapon, or related mission systems.
The ideal candidate will provide technical and programmatic support to help solve complex engineering challenges, perform analysis of components and system designs, evaluate courses of action, identify technical risks, and recommend practical paths forward. The candidate will support technical sufficiency of program documentation, including contract requirements packages, performance/system specifications, statements of work, technical data packages, and acquisition-related documentation. This role includes coordination with government stakeholders, prime contractors, Original Equipment Manufacturers, suppliers, user representatives, Army airworthiness personnel, and cross-functional teams to support Launched Effects platforms, payload integration, mission systems, command-and-control interfaces, ground control systems, datalinks, logistics, supply chain, production, testing, training, New Equipment Training/New Equipment Fielding, and lifecycle support activities.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, sound judgment in recommending solutions, critical thinking, logical analysis, adaptability to shifting priorities, and a commitment to improving systems, software, logistics, and program processes. Responsibilities
- Support systems engineering activities for Army Launched Effects platforms across the full product lifecycle, including prototyping, development, integration, test, qualification, production, fielding, sustainment, modernization, and product improvement.
- Support engineering analysis of system components, designs, interfaces, documentation, technical data, and vendor-provided solutions.
- Assist with development, review, allocation, management, and traceability of system and subsystem requirements.
- Support technical input to program documentation, including contract requirements packages, performance/system specifications, statements of work, scopes of work, acquisition plans, technical data packages, test documentation, and related acquisition products.
- Support hardware and software integration activities involving Launched Effects platforms, mission systems, ground control systems, command-and-control interfaces, guidance/navigation functions, communications, datalinks, and payloads.
- Support payload integration activities, which may include sensors, communications packages, electronic warfare capabilities, kinetic effects, or other mission payloads.
- Support evaluation of Launched Effects vendor platforms, component-level modifications, modernization efforts, and technical approaches.
- Assist with developmental and operational test planning, execution, analysis, documentation, and issue resolution.
- Support build, integration, and testing of rapid prototypes to validate design concepts and inform acquisition decisions.
- Support logistics engineering, supply chain management, production, fielding, sustainment, and lifecycle management activities.
- Support training, fielding, New Equipment Training, and New Equipment Fielding activities.
- Help identify technical, logistics, cost, schedule, performance, and programmatic challenges and support practical recommendations for resolution.
- Support investigation and resolution of technical discrepancies, root cause analysis, corrective action development, and implementation tracking.
- Support identification of technical risks and issues and assist with development of mitigation strategies and courses of action.
- Coordinate with government stakeholders, prime contractors, OEMs, suppliers, user representatives, Army airworthiness personnel, quality assurance personnel, systems engineers, logisticians, and other cross-functional team members.
- Support Integrated Product Teams, working groups, technical interchange meetings, design reviews, technical reviews, program status meetings, and stakeholder coordination forums.
- Establish, monitor, and report on cost, schedule, and performance of assigned systems engineering activities.
- Prepare and deliver written reports, technical assessments, briefings, and programmatic updates to management, program leadership, and external stakeholders.
- Support implementation of Model Based Systems Engineering principles, Modular Open Systems Approach principles, open systems architecture, and related systems engineering best practices as applicable.
- Support analysis of system-of-systems interfaces and integration across the broader Army aviation, uncrewed systems, mission systems, and effects ecosystem.
- Use general guidance to help develop direction, communicate priorities, and support team execution.
- Contribute to process improvement efforts that increase systems, software, logistics, acquisition, and program efficiency.
- Work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary government product office environment.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant engineering experience.
- Experience supporting aviation systems, uncrewed systems, missile systems, weapon systems, Launched Effects, or related mission systems.
- Understanding of systems engineering principles across the product lifecycle.
- Understanding of engineering drawings, technical documentation, requirements, integration, test, logistics, production, fielding, sustainment, and lifecycle management.
- Experience supporting development, review, allocation, or management of system or subsystem requirements.
- Ability to derive user requirements and communicate them clearly to prime contractors and stakeholders.
- Ability to support systems and software integration activities.
- Ability to support technical reviews, trade studies, program documentation, and technical data package content management.
- Ability to analyze technical information, evaluate identifiable factors, apply sound judgment, and recommend practical solutions.
- Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and accountability for accurate and complete work products.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Experience with DoW acquisition processes, rapid prototyping, rapid fielding, Other Transaction Authority, Commercial Solutions Opening, or related acquisition pathways.
- Experience supporting development, integration, testing, production, fielding, or sustainment of high-reliability defense systems.
- Experience reviewing, interpreting, or developing engineering drawings and related technical documentation.
- Experience supporting systems or subsystem requirements development, allocation, management, and traceability.
- Experience with systems and software integration.
- Experience with payload integration, including sensors, communications packages, electronic warfare capabilities, kinetic effects, or related mission payloads.
- Familiarity with guidance, navigation, command-and-control systems, ground control systems, or mission planning systems.
- Familiarity with military datalinks, communications architectures, or communication protocols.
- Experience with RADAR, electronic warfare, kinetic effects, sensors, or related mission technologies.
- Experience supporting logistics engineering, supply chain management, production, sustainment, fielding, or lifecycle management activities.
- Experience supporting developmental testing, operational test planning, test execution, or test documentation.
- Experience supporting training activities for aviation, weapon, mission, or uncrewed systems.
- Understanding of New Equipment Training and New Equipment Fielding principles.
