Position Overview
Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) supports mission-critical federal cybersecurity programs that provide rapid deployment and management of secure cloud-based engagement kits for cyber incident response and threat hunting operations. These capabilities enable analysts to quickly access secure tools and cloud environments needed to investigate cyber threats affecting federal agencies, state and local governments, and critical infrastructure.
We are seeking a Lab Manager II to support the sustainment and daily operations of the customer's laboratory environments. This position is responsible for provisioning, issuing, maintaining, and supporting IT equipment and user access within the lab while ensuring operational readiness of hardware, software, and virtual environments. The successful candidate will provide technical support to users, administer Apple devices, manage inventory, and help maintain a secure, efficient, and well-organized lab environment supporting cybersecurity operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Support lab personnel with provisioning, issuing, and maintaining IT equipment for end users.
• Maintain accurate inventory records for hardware, software, licenses, and other IT assets.
• Provision and support Virtual Private Network (VPN) and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments utilizing technologies such as Cisco, Citrix, VMware, and AWS.
• Provide timely technical assistance and customer support to users accessing and utilizing laboratory resources.
• Install, image, configure, administer, and maintain Apple hardware and macOS operating systems.
• Support workstation deployment, maintenance, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
• Assist users with authentication, access requests, and connectivity issues.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, inventory records, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure laboratory systems remain operational, secure, and properly maintained.
• Support virtualization initiatives through automation, optimization, and continuous process improvements.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with customers, management, peers, and external organizations.
Mandatory Skills
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Active DoD Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.
• Ability to obtain DHS Suitability.
• Two (2) or more years of experience in lab management, systems administration, or a related technical support role.
• Experience administering multiple operating systems, including Linux/Unix and macOS.
• Experience imaging and deploying workstation systems, preferably Apple products.
• Experience providing technical support within enterprise IT environments.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with customers, management, peers, and external organizations.
Preferred Skills
Experience with two or more of the following:
• IT asset management practices and inventory control.
• Hardware and software provisioning and lifecycle management.
• Authentication and identity/access management technologies.
• Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (Cisco, Citrix, VMware, AWS).
• Virtual Private Network (VPN) administration and support.
• Writing technical procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Virtualization automation and optimization.
• Apple device administration and enterprise macOS support.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
OR
High School Diploma with 4-6 years of directly relevant lab management, systems administration, or technical support experience.
Desired Certifications
• DoD 8140.01 Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II Certification.
