Job Description

Title: HR Generalist
Location: Herndon, VA (Hybrid)

The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Human Resources Generalist to join our growing organization. The HR Generalist will play an integral role in providing everyday support to our Stillwater team members. This role partners closely with managers and employees to promote a fair and consistent workplace environment while contributing to broader HR initiatives such as performance management, policy compliance, benefits administration, and organizational culture.
This position will also play a hands-on role in daily operations, including onboarding new employees, compensation, benefits administration, compliance and reporting, records management, training, and development.

Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations
  • Serve as a first point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and policy interpretation.
  • Coach managers on performance management, conflict resolution, and corrective action.
  • Conduct investigations related to employee relations issues and complaints and document findings.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure consistent application of policies.
Benefits & Leave Administration
  • Manage new?hire enrollment, qualifying life event changes, and support annual open enrollment.
  • Assist employees with benefits questions, claims issues, and plan navigation.
  • Coordinate with brokers and carriers to resolve discrepancies.
  • Support compliance with ACA, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with appropriate internal and external teams to ensure accurate SCA wage and benefit application.
  • Administer FMLA, ADA, parental leave, disability leave, and state ? mandated programs.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Assist with leave and attendance tracking.
HR Operations & Onboarding
  • Prepare employee correspondence, including but not limited to offer letters, job changes, promotions, and compensation changes.
  • Maintain accurate employee data in HRIS systems, and ensure timely updates.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant personnel files.
  • Process employee changes, terminations, and organizational updates.
  • Conduct new ? hire onboarding, orientation, training and assimilation activities.
Performance Management & Development
  • Support performance review cycles and assist managers in delivering feedback.
  • Participate in employee engagement initiatives and culture-building programs.
  • Coordinate training programs, learning initiatives, and compliance training.
Additional Team Support
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO, etc.).
  • Handle employment verifications.
  • Support compliance related reporting requirements.
  • Assist with internal and external audits as needed.
  • Participate in HR process improvements and special projects.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including direct experience handling employee relations and workplace investigations.
  • Strong understanding of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Experience with HRIS platforms and reporting tools.
Preferred
  • HR certification (PHR, SHRM ? CP, or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting government contracting environments.
  • Knowledge of SCA regulations and compliance requirements.
Travel Requirements:
  • Some travel may be required, up to 10% of the time. The travel may be local or national and may be by car, rail, or air.
