Job Description
Piper Companies is seeking a Lead Unix / Linux Administrator to support a government-focused organization in the Washington, DC area. The Lead Unix / Linux Administrator role is ideal for a senior-level infrastructure professional with deep Unix/Linux expertise, strong troubleshooting capabilities, and experience supporting enterprise environments, automation, and third-party applications.
Responsibilities of the Lead Unix / Linux Administrator:
• Provide advanced administration and support for Unix/Linux systems across enterprise environments.
• Install, configure, and maintain third-party applications and platform services.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex system, application, and infrastructure issues.
• Develop and implement automation solutions to improve system performance, scalability, and operational efficiency.
• Support project delivery efforts, including system implementations, upgrades, and migrations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable and secure system operations.
• Maintain system documentation, configurations, and operational procedures.
• Ensure compliance with security requirements and best practices for government environments.
Qualifications of the Lead Unix / Linux Administrator:
• 6+ years of experience administering Unix/Linux systems in enterprise environments.
• Strong, advanced expertise in Unix/Linux administration at a senior level.
• Hands-on experience with third-party application installation, configuration, and support.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues and operate independently.
• Experience with automation tools and scripting for infrastructure management.
• Active Secret clearance or eligibility to obtain Public Trust clearance required.
• Must meet DoD IAT Level II certification requirements (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, GSEC, or SSCP).
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a client-facing environment.
Compensation for the Lead Unix / Linux Administrator includes:
• Salary range: $100,000 - $115,000
• Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)
• Hybrid work schedule (2 days onsite per week at FTC Headquarters in Washington, DC)
